Por primera vez llego a tiempo para participar en el desafío blad, así que no podía perderme esta oportunidad. Se trata de mi rincón favorito de toda la casa: nuestra sala. Como saben, la transformación de este espacio ha sido toda una aventura, empezando con la pared que pinté de gris con la ayuda de un esténcil para lograr ese look tan escandinavo que me fascina. La mesa chaparrita que hice en mi diplomado de carpintería completa el estilo, con la madera en tono natural. Espero poco a poco ir cambiando otras cosas, mientras tanto, disfruto mucho así como está.

For the first time ever, I came just in time to participate in the blad challenge, and I could not miss the chance! It’s about my favorite place in our home: the living room. As you know, this space’s makeover has been quite an adventure, begining with the wall I stenciled to create that Scandinavian look I so much adore. The low side table is the one I made at the woodcraft workshop I took last year, and I love the natural tones it adds to the room. There are some things left to change still, but in the meantime, I enjoy it the way it is.

Ahora sí, a disfrutar el resto de la tarde, que acá tenemos día feriado… ¡espero lo hayan aprovechado bien!

La primavera está a punto de llegar, pero todavía le quedan algunos días al invierno. Preparémonos para despedirlo con una cabaña sumamente inspiradora en uno de mis estilos favoritos: el escandinavo. Por si fuera poco, añadimos algunos detalles rústicos, como madera y tejidos naturales… de esos que aportan la justa dosis de calidez en la paleta del blanco y negro. ¿Qué dices?

Spring is just around the corner, but there are a few days left of Winter yet. So I say, let’s say goodbye to the chilly weather with a truly inspiring cottage, in one of my most favorite styles of all: Scandinavian. Better yet, let’s add some rustic accents, such as raw wood and natural fibers… giving the perfect dose of warmth to the black and white palette. Shall we? I say we shall :)

Como siempre lo digo, adoro la mezcla de blanco, negro, gris y el café de la madera al natural. Me encanta la calidez que le aporta al ambiente. Esta casa es una muestra viva de que la buena decoración no tiene por qué ser complicada. Los muebles son sencillos, sin pretensiones, pero los accesorios le dan un toque muy especial: cajas reutilizadas, madera recuperada, mimbre tejido, frascos de vidrio, la gran lámpara industrial… en fin, todo me hace suspirar :) Por si fuera poco esas vistas de la montaña y el mar… ¡qué ganas de estar ahí!

As I’m always saying, I love the mix of black, white, grey, and wood tones. I love the warmth it adds to the room. This house shows great spaces don’t need to be expensive or complicated. The pieces of furniture are very simple, but the accents are amazing: reclaimed boxes and wood, natural fibers, glass, and the huge industrial pendant… it’s all so gorgeous together :) And then, of course, the mountain and bay views –how I wish I was there!

Cuando recién nos mudamos a esta casa mandamos instalar persianas en todas las ventanas, pues era lo más económico. Nunca nos habían molestado en realidad, hasta que pintamos la pared de la sala con el esténcil. Justo en ese momento se empezaron a ver muy feas, digamos que… pues dejaron de combinar con la “nueva” sala.

When we first moved to this house, we had the cheapest blinds installed in every window. They had never been an issue until we stencilled our living room wall. That’s when the blinds began to look pretty ugly. Let’s say they no longer matched.

Éste era el lado menos conocido de nuestra sala… hasta hoy. Te presento nuestra sala mejorada :)

This was the least known side of our living room… until today. Meet our imporved living room :)

Adoro como pareciera que la ventana ahora es más ancha, dándole amplitud a esa pared.

I love how it seems the window is wider now, making the wall feel a little larger.

Siendo el mismo espacio, también al comedor le tocó su renovación.

Being in the same space, the dining room also had its mini improvement.

Es impresionante el cambio que pueden generar las cortinas en un ambiente. El espacio ya luce mucho más completo, especialmente la sala, con sus accesorios.

It’s amazing the big change window treatments can bring into a space. It looks more complete, especially the living room.

Las cortinas que usamos son el modelo Palmira blanco, de Vianney, y en la sala colocamos además las persianas Calcuta en color chocolate, también de Vianney. Son muy sencillas de instalar… tanto que lo hicimos nosotros solitos.

The curtains are the model Palmira in white, from Vianney, and in the living room we added the Calcuta bamboo blinds in chocolate, also from Vianney, for extra privacy, since this window leads to the street. 

Los cojines son el juego Oasis, de Vianney. Me gustaron por esos tonos azul aqua que tienen, y me encanta cómo van con el gris, además de que los patrones también complementan muy bonito al de la pared.

The pillows are the Oasis model, from Vianney. I liked their gorgeous aqua tones, and I love how both the color and the pattern go with our accent wall.

Poco a poco, nuestra casa sigue tomando forma… Por lo pronto yo estoy muy contenta, no sólo por el cambio, sino porque a mi esposo y a mi hija también les gustó mucho cómo quedó :)

Little by little, our house becomes a home. In the meantime, I’m feeling very happy, not only because of this change, but because both my husband and daughter are loving it :)

Esta semana ha sido particularmente pesada. Ustedes no están para saberlo ni yo para contarlo, pero en la oficina he estado cubriendo a una compañera, lo cual hace que mi trabajo se duplique, y luego está el cierre de mes que siempre llega cargado… Pero no me quejo, también se vienen muchos proyectos personales que me tienen muy entusiasmada, así que espero poco a poco acomodar la agenda y darle salida a las cosas…

This week has been filled with tons of work. A coworker has been ill, so I’ve been doing both of our jobs, and then there’s the end of the month which brings loads of paperwork and stuff to deal with. Anyway, I’m not complaining, there are many interesting personal projects coming soon, so I’m excited. Hopefully I can squeeze everything in. :)

Mientras tanto, un break mental. Siguiendo con la inercia del rosa, te invito a sentarnos en esta linda sala… perfecta para dar la bienvenida a la primavera. Debo decirlo, nunca hubiera pensado que el rosa se ve tan lindo, generalmente lo pienso y me empalaga, y sin embargo, tanto en el post de ayer como en el de hoy me parece hermoso. La dosis perfecta. :)

I must say, I would have never thought pink would look so gorgeous, I generally find it too girly, and yet, yesterday’s photos as well as this one have the perfect amount and shade. Love them!

Es increíble como bastan pocos elementos para lograr rincones bien diseñados y funcionales. En esta casa, se aprovechó un pequeño muro para crear un recibidor con un pequeño librero y un espejo… ¡mira qué bonito quedó!

I’m always amazed to see small functional, well designed spaces. In this house, a narrow wall was used to create an entryway, with a little bookcase and a mirror… I love how pretty it turned out!

Excelente idea para todos nosotros que tenemos espacios pequeños, ¿no crees? Por cierto, lo que más me gusta de este recibidor es el espejo, el cual ayuda a aumentar la sensación de amplitud. Me encanta que no es un espejo tradicional, y que es un proyecto DIY (o HUM: Hágalo Usted Mismo) que hizo Aldo, el dueño de la casa. Básicamente pegó espejos pequeños sobre una tabla, los colgó, y ¡listo! Y de hecho, a mí me parece que las líneas de unión le dan un toque muy especial y original al espejo.

It’s an amazing small space! I love the mirror and how it helps to bring light and add visual space. I also love that it isn’t a traditional mirror, but it’s actually a DIY project Aldo, the owner, made. It’s basically made up of 12 small mirrors, glued to a board. Clever, huh? I even like how the lines give a very special feel to it.

El día de hoy me siento inspirada con esta hermosa sala. Un azul ténue, casi imperceptible, como base, con capas de café, dorado y blanco… Tondos los colores son muy sutiles, armonizando perfectamente. Por último, detalles de la naturaleza, como flores rosas y una planta al fondo, para dar contraste y romper la monotonía… ¡qué belleza! Por cierto, esa lámpara está increíble, ¿no lo crees?

¡Que pases un excelente fin de semana largo!

Today I’m feeling inspired with this gorgeous living room. A really light blue, as a base, with layers of light brown, golden and white. A very subtle palette, with perfect harmony. Last, but not least, the accents are given with natural elements, such as the pink flowers and the tall plant, creating a bit of contrasting elements. ¡Such a beautiful room! By the way, I’m sooooo in love with that chandelier, it’s so pretty!

Por fin llegó el fin de semana, y qué mejor que inspirarnos para descansar y disfrutarlo que con muchas imágenes de hermosas salas acogedoras, llenas de ideas para decorar tu estar… ¡espero que te gusten y que tengas un excelente fin! Yo estoy muy emocionada porque por fin mañana vuelvo a mi diplomado en interiorismo que estoy tomando en el Instituto Karen Collignon, y tú, ¿qué planes tienes?

Me encanta la combinación de distintos estilos, así como de elementos diferentes o inesperados, como las enredaderas bordeando las ventanas. Todas me parecen muy acogedoras, muy ideales para disfrutarse y vivirse plenamente, justo como los espacios deben ser, ¿no crees?

I absolutely love all of them! I like how there’s a mixture of elements and styles, and eveything looks good together. How cute is the plant growing around the window? And they’re all so cozy and liveable, the way spaces should be. :)

Decidí que este primer fin de semana del año lo usaríamos para organizar toda la casa –sólo nos alcanzó para nuestro cuarto y para quitar el arbolito y demás adornos de Navidad, pero al menos fue un buen comienzo. La pequeña sala, sin embargo, se siente vacía sin el árbol, y cada que la veo mi cabeza gira y gira pensando en los cambios y cosas que me gustaría hacerle este año. Me entusiasma mucho pensar en los proyectos de casa y personales que tengo para este 2013… ¡todo lo que pido es tiempo!!!!!

Mientras tanto, una sala que me tiene muy, pero muy inspirada… el estilo industrial-rústico-refinado definitivamente es uno de mis favoritos. ¡Bonita semana!

I decided to use our first weekend this year organizing our house. I only got to do our bedroom and store away the Christmas décor, but it was a good start. The tiny living and dining area, however, looks empty without the tree, and everytime I look at it, my head starts spinning, thinking about all the thigs I would love to get my hands on. I really get anxious and excited about my list of both home and personal projects for 2013… all I ask for is time!!!!

In the meantime, a gorgous living room that gets me very inspired. The rustic-industrial-refined look is definitely one of my favorites ever. Happy week!

Esta ha sido una semana particularmente pesada (todos estamos enfermos en casa), pero quise pasar rápido para compartir un poquito de lo mucho que hemos hecho. En estos días pusimos el arbolito y opté por un estilo natural-neutral, y lo adoro. Me encanta cómo ilumina completamente el espacio, además de que es lo primero que vemos al bajar las escaleras cada mañana, y eso me pone feliz. :)

This has been a somewhat tough week at home (we all got the flu), but I wanted to stop by to share with you some of the things that have kept us busy, inspite of the coughing and headaches. We bought and decorated our tree in a very natural, neutral style, and I love it. It makes me happy to see our living room all spruced up as we come down the stairs every morning.

Como puedes ver, mantuvimos la decoración y los detalles bastante sencillos -inspirados un tanto por el estilo nórdico. Lograr este look es increíblemente fácil, y nada caro. Por ejemplo, las piñas en el árbol las hice yo hace 3 Navidades (las recolectamos en un parque y toda la cosa), los copos de nieve los compré el año pasado en el súper, y las esferas tipo bola disco -que adoro- así como las ramitas plateadas son de la tienda de a dólar (3 por menos de 1 dólar). El cojín rojo es de Vianney y la vela búho… ésa ya se las he presumido mucho, es diseñada por mí y se la pueden ganar aquí. :)

As you see, we kept the décor simple, inspired by the lovely Nordic Christmas photos I’ve posted. This look is extremely easy, and it wasn’t expensive at all. I made the pinecone ornaments 3 years ago, the snoflakes are from  the grocery store, the disco ball ornaments are from the dollar store (3 for 1 dolar), the red pillow is from Vianney, and the owl candle -well, you know the story by now (in case you don’t, I’m hosting a giveaway and you can win one here).

Ahora me voy, porque tengo mucho trabajo que hacer y es noche, ¡muy noche!
