Hace una semana les contaba cómo el fin de semana pasado había sido perfecto. Fueron muchas las cosas que lo hicieron excepcional, y una de ellas fue la maravillosa visita que hicimos como parte del diplomado en diseño de interiores que estoy tomando. En esta ocasión, Karen Collignon nos invitó a pasar el día con ella, conociendo uno de sus proyectos actuales, todavía en proceso. Lo que inició como una visita de campo, terminó en una increíble comida casual campirana, tremendamente inspiradora.

A week ago I was just telling you how my last weekend was perfect. There were many things that made it exceptional, and one of them was the visit we made as part of the interior design course I’m taking. Designer Karen Collignon herself invited us to spend the day with her, at one of her actual projects, still in progress. What begun as a simple visit turned out to be one of the most amazing events, a casual country lunch, as inspiring as can be.

La decoración de la mesa fue muy casual y sencilla… increíblemente linda.

The table styling was casual and simple. Just perfect.

Las plantas, especialmente los olivos, fueron un bonito detalle en la mesa. Al final del día, nos regalaron uno a cada quien (de hecho, el mío fue el que fotografié acá).

The plants, especially the olives, were a great detail on the table. At the end of the day, they gave one to each of us (I took some photos of mine here).

Por supuesto, no podría faltar la foto de grupo :) Fue un día increíble, la compañía estupenda, la comida y la bebida deliciosa, la charla muy amena, el lugar precioso, y Karen y su esposo, los mejores anfitriones y maestros.  Todo fue perfecto.

Por cierto, además de mi grupo, en esta visita también estuvo el grupo del diplomado de paisajismo, por lo que también tuvimos la experiencia de conocer el proyecto desde esa perspectiva. Espero mañana estar compartiendo las fotos de los hermosos exteriores.

Group photo, of course :) It was an amazing day, with the best company, delicious food and drinks, gorgeous place, and Karen and her husband the perfect hosts and teachers. Everything was simply perfect.

By the way, besides our group, the guys from the landscaping course were also there, so we had the chance to see this aspect of the project as well. I’m hoping tomorrow I’ll show you those lovely photos too.

Con el clima tan caluroso como lo hemos tenido estas últimas semanas, lo único que dan ganas es de estar en la playa disfrutando el agua y la brisa del mar. Lástima que estoy tan lejos de poder darme una escapadita. Sin embargo, siempre podemos darnos nuestro break mental y soñar despiertos, ¿no te parece? Y para eso, hoy te traigo el mejor detino: Mykonos, Grecia.

The days have been so hot the last few weeks, all I want to do is be at the beach, enjoying the water and the sea breeze. Too bad I’m far from being able to do that. However, I always like to take little mental breaks, and get away daydreming, don’t you think? And I’ve chosen the best destiny for today: Mykonos, Greece.

Este lugar tan increíble es el hotel boutique Ostraco Suites, en Mykonos, Grecia. Espacios con una belleza simple, nada complicada, llenos de blanco con notas de color intenso. Y por supuesto, la interesante combinación del estilo rústico con el diseño moderno que luce tan bien. Un look que inspira. ¡Qué ganas de estar allá!

El espacio es una de esas cosas de las que nunca (o casi nunca) tenemos lo suficiente en las casas. Los hogares siempre necesitan todo el espacio de almacenamiento que se les pueda dar, y, el caso de las casas chiquitas, es una de las cosas más preciadas del mundo.

El espacio que hoy te quiero presentar no es para nada chiquito, pero sí ofrece una solución de organización que, en lo particular, me deja encantada. :)

Space is one of those things we can never (or almost never) get enough in a house. Homes are always in need of good storage space, and that’s even more precious if the home is small. 

The space I’m sharing today is not a tiny room, but it has a gorgeous organizing solution I really like :)

Qué increíble manera de aprovechar la pared, ¿no crees? Un mueble a la medida, en blanco para no restarle amplitud al espacio, que aprovecha toda la pared en donde se recarga la cama. Muchos rincones donde guardar libros, mostrar fotografías y demás tesoros. Además, la recámara es en sí misma una belleza, con colores cálidos y neutros, donde el blanco y los colores claros destacan y hacen del espacio un lugar luminoso y sereno. La combinación blanco, negro y madera nuevamente se hace presente, para lograr un estilo country moderno que lo tiene todo: clásico, elegante y relajado a la vez.

Don’t you just love the way the wall is used? The built-in shelves are gorgeous, and the white helps them blend into the wall, adding to the sense of space in the room. There’s plenty of storage space, and enough room to display photographs and objects. I know the bedroom is in itself a beauty, with the warm, neutral tones, where white and light cream make it look spacious and serene. The black, white, and wood palette manages to make this modern country style look both elegant and relaxed, all at the same time.

Una de las puertas de ayer, justo la única que estaba al “natural” despertó en mí muchos deseos por conocer el interior que albergaba. Curiosa como soy, no paré hasta encontrar la casa dueña de una puerta tan original. Resulta ser que no se trata precisamente de una casa, sino de un granero que fue restaurado y convertido en una casa hecha y derecha… de esas que nos hacen suspirar.

One of yesterday’s doors, the only “natural” one, made me very interested to find out how the inside of the house looked like. Curious as I am, I didn’t stop until I found the owner of such a beautiful door. Turns out, it’s not exactly a house, but instead a barn, converted into a gorgeous contemporary home, the kind that makes us sigh and smile. :)

No cabe duda que es un hogar lleno de encanto, donde todos los detalles fueron cuidados y donde se mezcla con mucho gusto y equilibrio el aspecto rústico del granero, con la estética moderna de algunos muebles y accesorios así como los detalles industriales. La conversión fue llevada a cabo por la firma Shed Architects.

Such a lovely home, where all details have been carefully placed, and where the rustic aspect of the barn is tastefully mixed with the modern aesthetics of some pieces and accesories, and then, once again, with the industrial details. The conversion was made by Shed Architects.

Hoy encontré esta hermosa recámara mientras navegaba en la blogósfera… y me encantó. Es un espacio sumamente luminoso y acogedor, definitivamente una cama que invita. Me llamó mucho la atención la cantidad de detalles étnicos que tiene, traídos de todas partes del mundo (Uruguay, Marruecos, Mongolia y Canadá, entre otros), y cómo todos van tan bien entre sí, además de que aportan mucho carácter a la habitación, ¿no te parece? Sin duda, este estilo se puede incorporar muy bien en los espacios modernos o contemporáneos, usando piezas clave (a mi mente viene toda la riqueza textil que tenemos por ejemplo aquí en México). Algo que también vale la pena resaltar es la ubicación de la cama. Mientras aquí nos negamos a colocar la cabecera debajo de la ventana, en países como Estados Unidos y Canadá es algo de lo más común… y debo decir que luce muy bonito. Supongo que es cuestión cultural y de costumbre…  ¿será que un día nosotros también nos animamos?

Today I found this gorgeous bedroom as I was browsing the blogosphere, and I fell for it. It’s such a bright and cozy space, definitely inviting. I loved all the ethnic details it has, brought from different parts of the world (Uruguay, Morocco, Mongolia, and Canada) and how they all go well together, adding so much character to the room. Ethnic accents can be well incorporated into modern or contemporary rooms, using key pieces (all our rich indigenous textiles in Mexico come to mind). Something noticeable as well is the bed position. While we refuse to place our headboard under the window, it’s obviously something quite common in the U.S. or Canada, and I must say I love the way it looks. I guess it’s something cultural and traditional… will we dare someday, I wonder? :)

La primavera está a punto de llegar, pero todavía le quedan algunos días al invierno. Preparémonos para despedirlo con una cabaña sumamente inspiradora en uno de mis estilos favoritos: el escandinavo. Por si fuera poco, añadimos algunos detalles rústicos, como madera y tejidos naturales… de esos que aportan la justa dosis de calidez en la paleta del blanco y negro. ¿Qué dices?

Spring is just around the corner, but there are a few days left of Winter yet. So I say, let’s say goodbye to the chilly weather with a truly inspiring cottage, in one of my most favorite styles of all: Scandinavian. Better yet, let’s add some rustic accents, such as raw wood and natural fibers… giving the perfect dose of warmth to the black and white palette. Shall we? I say we shall :)

Como siempre lo digo, adoro la mezcla de blanco, negro, gris y el café de la madera al natural. Me encanta la calidez que le aporta al ambiente. Esta casa es una muestra viva de que la buena decoración no tiene por qué ser complicada. Los muebles son sencillos, sin pretensiones, pero los accesorios le dan un toque muy especial: cajas reutilizadas, madera recuperada, mimbre tejido, frascos de vidrio, la gran lámpara industrial… en fin, todo me hace suspirar :) Por si fuera poco esas vistas de la montaña y el mar… ¡qué ganas de estar ahí!

As I’m always saying, I love the mix of black, white, grey, and wood tones. I love the warmth it adds to the room. This house shows great spaces don’t need to be expensive or complicated. The pieces of furniture are very simple, but the accents are amazing: reclaimed boxes and wood, natural fibers, glass, and the huge industrial pendant… it’s all so gorgeous together :) And then, of course, the mountain and bay views –how I wish I was there!

Adoro la serenidad, amplitud y luminosidad que aporta el blanco (en sus diferentes tonalidades) a los espacios. En esta cabaña recientemente renovada está acompañado por maderas en tonos claros, que ayudan aún más a aligerar los espacios y brindarles una sensación de paz y tranquilidad perfecta para una casa de descanso. Un estilo cottage fresco y contemporáneo que espero te guste e inspire para empezar el día.

I love the power of white, a power to bring peace and serenity, and to open spaces. This cabin was recently renovated, and it’s paired up with light toned woods that make it light and airy, perfect for a country home. A fresh and modern cottage style which will hopefully help you get inspired and ready to start the day.

Me encanta el uso de la madera en tonos claros y el blanco… no me canso de ellos. También me gusta mucho la combinación de piezas modernas con muebles de estilo rústico… todo ello resultando en un espacio que se siente moderno, fresco y muy luminoso, ¿no crees?

I can’t get enough of the white and the light wood! I’m also a huge fan of mixing modern pieces with rustic ones, resulting in a modern and fresh space, don’t you think?

Ayer hablamos de oficinas y me alegra mucho ver que las encontraron tan increíbles como yo. Una de ellas, la última que compartí, me llamó mucho la atención por ser de un estilo escandinavo diferente a lo que suelo ver. Como siempre, hay mucho blanco y negro, sin embargo también hay tonos cobrizos y oxidados que le dan un toque de calidez muy interesante. Resulta que ésta es tan sólo una parte de la casa de la diseñadora sueca Marie Olsson Nylander… y el resto es tan fascinante. La decoración tiene una mezcla de estilos difícil de definir, pero a mí me divierte llamarle así: escandinavo vintage ecléctico chic :O

Yesterday I shared with you some quite inspiring home offices, and I’m glad you found them as amazing as I did. One of them (the very last, actually) caught my attention for its rather different Scandinavian style. As always, there’s black and white, but there’s also warm copper tones and vintage details. Turns out this is Swedish designer Marie Olsson Nylander’s home, and the rest of the house is just as fascinating. This interesting mix of styles is something that I like to call: Scandinavian Vintage Eclectic Chic…

Vaya mezcla de estilos, ¿verdad? Hay detalles industriales, vintage, accesorios étnicos de diferentes partes del mundo, incluso elementos un tanto rústicos, como la mesa en esta salita última… como les decía, yo adoro el toque de calidez que aportan los tonos cobrizos, naranjas, maderas a la paleta tradicional “blanco y negro” de la decoración escandinava. Y bueno, si a todo eso le agregas el hermoso cielo rosa… me deja sin aliento y sin palabras. :)

Talk about eclectic, right? There’s industrial details, vintage finds, ethnic accesories from all over the world. There’s even rustic pieces, such as the beautiful coffee table in this last photo. As I mentioned before, I love the warmth that the copper orange tones add to the spaces, mixed with the traditional “black and white”. Add up the gorgeous pink sky, and it just leaves me breathless (and speechless).

En total contraste con el departamento móvil del post de ayer, el día de hoy quiero compartir una casa muy alegre, perfecta para disfrutar de días soleados. Si bien el color está presente en algunos muros y puertas, lo que me gusta de esta casa es que tiene una base blanca, muy neutra, y el color se le inyecta a través de detalles decorativos y accesorios –que es la forma como más me gusta hacerlo a mí. De esta manera, se puede cambiar fácilmente la gama por otras tonalidades cuando nos cansemos. Así que, sin más preámbulos, aquí las fotos…

Making a huge contrast with the mobile apartment I shared on yesterday’s post, today I’d like to share a very happy home, perfect for sunny days. It’s filled with color on some walls, and even doors, but what I like the most about it is that it’s got a pretty neutral foundation, and color is given through accessories and details. This is how I generally like to work with color, that way, when you feel tired about a certain tone, you can switch without huge complications. So, without further ado, the photos…

Esta increíble casa fue construida por el arquitecto Valentín de Madariaga, mientras que el diseño interior es obra de Marta de la Rica.

Hay muchos espacios muy alegres y bonitos en la casa, pero sin duda alguna, mi espacio favorito es la cocina: blanca con un porcelanato tipo piedra con tonos cobrizos, una barra-mesa increíble de estilo rústico que deja ver la veta de la madera (tal como me gusta) combinadas con ese toque moderno que dan las sillas Eames de Vitra, finalizando con las increíbles lámparas Copper de Tom Dixon… ¡wow! De verdad ese espacio me hace suspirar. :)

This gorgeous home was built by Architect Valentin de Madariaga, and the interior design is by Marta de la Rica.

There are plenty of beautiful spaces in this house, but my favorite room, by far, is the kitchen. I love everything about it: the white cabinetry with the dark ceramic tile, the amazing rustic table combined with the Eames chairs… and finishing it all with the awesome Copper lamps by Tom Dixon… wow! It really makes me sigh! :)

Decidí que este primer fin de semana del año lo usaríamos para organizar toda la casa –sólo nos alcanzó para nuestro cuarto y para quitar el arbolito y demás adornos de Navidad, pero al menos fue un buen comienzo. La pequeña sala, sin embargo, se siente vacía sin el árbol, y cada que la veo mi cabeza gira y gira pensando en los cambios y cosas que me gustaría hacerle este año. Me entusiasma mucho pensar en los proyectos de casa y personales que tengo para este 2013… ¡todo lo que pido es tiempo!!!!!

Mientras tanto, una sala que me tiene muy, pero muy inspirada… el estilo industrial-rústico-refinado definitivamente es uno de mis favoritos. ¡Bonita semana!

I decided to use our first weekend this year organizing our house. I only got to do our bedroom and store away the Christmas décor, but it was a good start. The tiny living and dining area, however, looks empty without the tree, and everytime I look at it, my head starts spinning, thinking about all the thigs I would love to get my hands on. I really get anxious and excited about my list of both home and personal projects for 2013… all I ask for is time!!!!

In the meantime, a gorgous living room that gets me very inspired. The rustic-industrial-refined look is definitely one of my favorites ever. Happy week!
