Hoy las plantas se vienen pa’dentro, de la mano de la estilista y fotógrafa Daniella Witte. Increíble cómo bastan unas ramitas para alegrar un espacio, y cómo se puede jugar con sus colores y texturas para transmitir exactamente las emociones que queremos. Después de pasar un buen rato disfrutando y devorándome el trabajo de Daniella, me queda claro que las plantas definitivamente son una manera muy fácil y accesible de levantar cualquier rincón de nuestra casa, ¿no te parece?
(Se nota que quiero unas plantas, ya sea dentro o fuera de casa, ¿eh? :)
After yesterday’s post, we’re bringing the plants inside, with a little help from stylist and photographer Daniella Witte. It’s amazing how little it takes to brighten up any room, and how plants are perfect with all their colors and textures to communicate emotions and create the atmosphere we want to. After spending quite a while devouring Daniella’s work, it becomes evident how easy for anybody it is to use plants in our home, don’t you think?
Este 30 de abril es el día del niño, y para celebrarlo un proyecto diy (hazlo tú mismo) que estoy segura les encantará: hacer una medusa de mar. Esta actividad ayudará a desarrollar su creatividad, imaginación y conciencia ecológica, ya que es una excelente manera de reutilizar materiales que ya tenemos en casa. Diseñada por mi hija, con algunas aportaciones mías, ¡espero lo disfruten juntos!!!!!
On April 30th we celebrate Children’s Day in Mexico, and so I thought I’d share with you an all-time Casa Haus original favorite: our how to make a jellyfish tutorial. This is an easy and fun activity to help develop their creativity, imagination, and eco-concience, reusing stuff already in our homes. Designed by my daughter, with a little help from her mom, I really hope you enjoy it!
Paso 1: Si quieres hacer tus medusas de color, pon unas gotitas de colorante artificial.
Step 1: If you want to try for colored jellyfish, use a few drops of food coloring on your bag.
Paso 2: Usa tu dedo para pintar la bolsa. Prepárate: ¡los dedos te quedarán muy manchados!!!!
Step 2: Use your fingers to paint the bag. Beware of blue fingers!
Paso 3: Voltea la bolsa por el revés. Coloca una liga donde quieras marcar la división entre la cabeza y la umbrella (la parte que parece paraguas). La distancia depende del tamaño de tu bolsa, pero es aproximádamente dos terceras partes de la misma.
Step 3: Turn the bag inside-out. Use the rubber band to mark the division between head and umbrella. The distance depends on the size of your bag, but it’s somewhere between 1/2 and 2/3 of the bag.
Paso 4: Una vez que lo hayas hecho te quedará algo así.
Step 4: Once you put the rubber band, it should look like this.
Paso 5: Usa otra bolsa para cortar espirales. En este paso el niño necesitará tu ayuda.
Step 5: Use another bag to cut out spirals. This is a step for you, since it’s a little tricky for kids.
Paso 6: Coloca el palito por dentro, y sujétalo con otra liga. Aprovecha esta misma liga para colocar las espirales por una de las puntas (la del centro del espiral). Esto formará los tentáculos. Haz tantos como necesites.
Step 6: Place the stick inside, and secure it with another rubber band. Use this same rubber band to place the spirals in place. (You should take the spirals by the center tip). The spirals are very important for they make pretty tentacles. Do as many as you need (the more, the merrier =).
¡Listo! Si dejas la bolsa sin pintar, te quedarán hermosas medusas blancas.
Done! If you leave the bags unpainted, they will make gorgeous white jellyfish.
Estas medusas son increíblemente fáciles de hacer, y los resultados quedan hermosos. Al subir y bajar el palito de madera, la medusa se mueve justo como se mueven las medusas reales, así que queda perfecta. A mí me encanta porque son una manera muy creativa de reutilizar materiales comunes, como la bolsa de plástico.

These jellyfish are very easy to make and you’ll be sure to get great results. If you go up and down with the stick holding the jellyfish, it will move just like the real ones do. That makes them so perfect! I love them because they are a very creative way of reusing materials.

Como recordarás, hace un mes que instalamos cortinas en nuestra sala, y nos encanta. El cambio principal, además de que el espacio luce más completo y vestido, es que las ventanas y las paredes se ven más amplias, y eso, en un espacio pequeño como el nuestro, es increíble.
As you may remember, about a month ago, we installed curtains in our living room, and we love it. The main change, besides having better window treatments, is the windows and walls look so much larger, and that is really appreciated, especially in a small space, like ours.
Ustedes ya se saben la historia del antes y el después, sin embargo, hay un par de secretos que no les he contado, y hoy les voy a compartir.
You know the before and after story, however, there are a couple of secrets I haven’t told anyone, and I’ve finally managed to have some time to spill the beans.

Primero: Para lograr que las cortinas se vieran como yo quería, tuve que meter tijera. Las cortinas originales eran así:
First: To get the curtains to look the way I wanted, I had to use my scissors. They originally came like this:
Pero yo no las quería con esos “tirantes”, especialmente porque no iba a poner otra cortina encima de ellas. Así que sacrificando altura por vista, me decidí a arreglar el asunto fácilmente:
I didn’t want them hanging like that, especially because I wasn’t putting any other curtains in front of them. So, sacrifying height for looks, I decided to tackle the issue easily:
Fuera tirantes, ¡hola cortinas nuevas!
Out curtain suspenders, hello new window treatments!
El segundo truco, es muy conocido, pero por si acaso tú no lo has escuchado, aquí te va:
“Para crear la sensación de amplitud, coloca las cortinas lo más arriba y a los lados posible”.
The other trick is very popular, but in case you haven’t heard of it, here it goes:
“Create the feeling of larger windows, by hanging the curtains high and wide”.
Este truco es muy sencillo, y el cambio es impresionante… en este dibujo que hice, las dos paredes y las dos ventanas son del mismo tamaño. Lo que cambia, son las cortinas. En nuestro caso, las persianas que teníamos estaban colgadas como en el segundo dibujo: bajas, angostas y cortitas… en pocas palabras, fatal.
This is a very simple trick, and the change really is huge. In this illustration I made, both walls and windows are the same size; the curtains are not. In our case, the shades where hanging like the second picture: low, narrow, and short. Not nice.

Cuando recién nos mudamos a esta casa mandamos instalar persianas en todas las ventanas, pues era lo más económico. Nunca nos habían molestado en realidad, hasta que pintamos la pared de la sala con el esténcil. Justo en ese momento se empezaron a ver muy feas, digamos que… pues dejaron de combinar con la “nueva” sala.
When we first moved to this house, we had the cheapest blinds installed in every window. They had never been an issue until we stencilled our living room wall. That’s when the blinds began to look pretty ugly. Let’s say they no longer matched.
Éste era el lado menos conocido de nuestra sala… hasta hoy. Te presento nuestra sala mejorada :)

Being in the same space, the dining room also had its mini improvement.
Es impresionante el cambio que pueden generar las cortinas en un ambiente. El espacio ya luce mucho más completo, especialmente la sala, con sus accesorios.
It’s amazing the big change window treatments can bring into a space. It looks more complete, especially the living room.
Las cortinas que usamos son el modelo Palmira blanco, de Vianney, y en la sala colocamos además las persianas Calcuta en color chocolate, también de Vianney. Son muy sencillas de instalar… tanto que lo hicimos nosotros solitos.
The curtains are the model Palmira in white, from Vianney, and in the living room we added the Calcuta bamboo blinds in chocolate, also from Vianney, for extra privacy, since this window leads to the street.
Los cojines son el juego Oasis, de Vianney. Me gustaron por esos tonos azul aqua que tienen, y me encanta cómo van con el gris, además de que los patrones también complementan muy bonito al de la pared.
The pillows are the Oasis model, from Vianney. I liked their gorgeous aqua tones, and I love how both the color and the pattern go with our accent wall.
Poco a poco, nuestra casa sigue tomando forma… Por lo pronto yo estoy muy contenta, no sólo por el cambio, sino porque a mi esposo y a mi hija también les gustó mucho cómo quedó :)

Little by little, our house becomes a home. In the meantime, I’m feeling very happy, not only because of this change, but because both my husband and daughter are loving it :)
El día de hoy, una transformación muy inspiradora. Una cocina regular convertida en un hermoso espacio, lista para aparecer en cualquier revista de diseño. ¿Lo mejor? Toda la transformación corrió a cargo de la dueña de la casa, con poca experiencia previa, pero eso sí, con mucha motivación. No pude evitar acordarme de nuestra cocina, y cómo hace ya 2 años nosotros también decidimos pintarla de blanco, iniciando así nuestra primera transformación (toda la historia aquí).
Today, we’re talking about a really inspiring makeover. An ordinary kitchen transformed into an extraordinary space, ready for any magazine shoot. The best thing of all? It’s a DIY project, so it’s pretty motivating. I couldn’t help remembering our own kitchen, and how 2 years ago we also decided to paint it white, starting our first ever makeover story.

¿Verdad que es hermoso? Cristina hizo todo: pintó los gabinetes de blanco, instaló molduras y mosaicos… en fin, ¡una transformación increíble!
Por supuesto que pintar la carpintería es un trabajo duro y tardado, pero no imposible. Es una forma realmente económica de renovar la cocina, con excelentes resultados. Yo, personalmente, me siento muy feliz de haberlo hecho, y lo volvería hacer. Es sólo cuestión de animarse ;)

Painting the kitchen cabinets is hard work, but it’s not impossible. It’s a cheap way to transform the kitchen, with amazing results. I personally feel really happy to have done it, and would do it again. It’s just a matter of making up your mind.
Ay, las paredes con cuadros… siempre me fascinan, así que no es raro que vuelva a postear sobre ellas (¿verdad?). Hay tantas fotos inspiradoras que se tienen que compartir, y éstas son las últimas que me tienen suspirando. Hay para todos los gustos y estilos: vintage, clásico, contemporáneo, moderno… espero las disfrutes ;)
Oh, those gallery walls! They always make me sigh, so it’s completely normal for me to post about them yet again (right?). There are so many inspiring photos that must be shared. These are the last ones I’ve been drooling over. Plenty of inspiration no matter what decorating style you crave: vintage, classic, contemporary, modern…
Antes se decía que para lograr un buen muro de cuadros había que tener algo uniforme -ya fuera el tamaño, el tipo de marco, el color, etc., sin embargo, ya tenemos muchos ejemplos en los que se usan todo tipo de marcos, imágenes, colores y objetos con mucho atino. Por supuesto, tiene su chiste; hay cierto balance que se tiene que conseguir. Por otro lado, los acomodos más tradicionales y equilibrados también me parecen muy hermosos (basta ver ésta últimas fotos)… así que, lo único que hace falta es animarse, ¿no crees?
Por cierto, hablando de la última imagen, qué genial idea, la de dividir una foto grande (tipo mapa) en varias pequeñas, y conseguir así un gran impacto. Incluso pareciera una especie de ventana, aunque la vista, por supuesto, sea en blanco y negro… el marco dorado también es un lindo toque.

I used to hear that successful gallery walls had to had something in common: shape, size, frame, color, etc. I’m so glad to keep bumping into spaces where there seems to be nothing in common. There’s an art to properly styling a gallery wall, of course, but I like to think there are no fixed rules about it. On the other hand, I still also like traditional arrangements (just take a look at the bottom two).
By the way, speaking about the last photo, did you notice it’s a huge photograph cut into smaller images? I am so loving it! It even seems like a window (the view is black and white, I know, but still), and the gold frames are to die for.

I’m always amazed to see small functional, well designed spaces. In this house, a narrow wall was used to create an entryway, with a little bookcase and a mirror… I love how pretty it turned out!
Excelente idea para todos nosotros que tenemos espacios pequeños, ¿no crees? Por cierto, lo que más me gusta de este recibidor es el espejo, el cual ayuda a aumentar la sensación de amplitud. Me encanta que no es un espejo tradicional, y que es un proyecto DIY (o HUM: Hágalo Usted Mismo) que hizo Aldo, el dueño de la casa. Básicamente pegó espejos pequeños sobre una tabla, los colgó, y ¡listo! Y de hecho, a mí me parece que las líneas de unión le dan un toque muy especial y original al espejo.
It’s an amazing small space! I love the mirror and how it helps to bring light and add visual space. I also love that it isn’t a traditional mirror, but it’s actually a DIY project Aldo, the owner, made. It’s basically made up of 12 small mirrors, glued to a board. Clever, huh? I even like how the lines give a very special feel to it.

Aquí te dejo nuestro nacimiento… fue un pequeño gran regalo que nos hizo nuestra hija con pequeños pedazos de madera y pintura. ¿Qué te puedo decir? ¡A mí me fascina!!! Y creo que puede ser una excelente idea como actividad para poner a los pequeños a hacer mientras esperan la llegada del Niño Dios y la cena de Noche Buena. Está facilito, muy accesible, y lo mejor, divertido – justo como me gustan los DIY :)
Oh, I leave you with our gorgeous Nativity set. This was a gift our daughter made for us this year with little blocks of wood and paint. I love it so much! I think it’s the perfect activity for little ones this Christmas Eve. Easy, totally non-expensive, and best of all: fun -just like good DIY should be. :)
Hace algunas semanas, Vianney me invitó a montar una mesa navideña con artículos de su catálogo de invierno, y yo, por supuesto, acepté el reto emocionada. Había visto muchas mesas divinas en fotos y revistas, pero la verdad es que yo nunca había puesto una, así que me pareció la oportunidad perfecta para vestir el comedor como siempre lo había querido. ¡Y el resultado me encantó!
El punto de partida fue Antara, un hermoso mantel con motivos plateados que llamó mi atención desde el primer momento en que lo vi. De ahí vino la inspiración para el resto de los elementos… todo en la misma gama de grises, plateados y acentos en rojo.

A few weeks ago, Vianney invited me to set a Christmas table with products from its Winter Catalogue. Of course, I was eager to get my hands on the project!
The starting point was Antara, a gorgeous tablecloth with silver motifs. It triggered my inspiration for the rest of the elements. Everything was gray and silver, with red accents. I loved the end result!
This is our Christmas tablescape.
El camino rojo también es del catálogo de invierno de Vianney y se llama Noche de Paz. Adoro cómo hacen juego los copos de nieve bordados con los que puse de adorno, así como el bello contraste con el mantel.
The runner is also from Vianney, and I love how the snowflakes on them look like the ornaments I placed on the table.
Como puedes ver, seguí con el estilo natural que utilicé en nuestro arbolito, acomodando velas, piñas, esferas y copos de nieve.
I kept the same natural style from our Christmas tree, with candles, pinecones, ornaments, and snowflakes.
De igual manera, usé las piñas a modo de adorno sobre la servilleta que doblé sobre los platos.
I placed a pinecone on each napkin.
La base para plato está incluida también en el catálogo de Vianney. El pequeño detalle rojo ayuda a realzar los platos, y nuevamente brinda contraste con el precioso mantel.
I love how the red accent makes contrast with the tablecloth.
Para asignar los lugares, hice unas tarjetitas y las acomodé en las piñas. Sencillo y luce increíble.
As placecards, I used a little paper and placed it on the pinecones.
Por cierto, no pude evitar pedir también los viniles con figuras de copos de nieve. Tienen figuras lindísimas, con relieve, y fue muy divertido pegarlos sobre las ventanas con nuestra hija. Se ven preciosos a todas horas, pero en las fotos fue imposible capturarlos de día, así que tomé un par de fotos de noche, para que los vieran en todo su esplendor.
I couln’t help falling for their vinyl snowflakes. They’re super cute and sticking them on the windows was so much fun! They look great at any time of day, but night was the best hour to photograph them.
Ahí lo tienes, nuestro comedor navideño, por la noche.
