Hoy quiero compartir con ustedes una casa que me gustó mucho. Está llena de contrastes: por un lado mucho blanco y negro, pero con la calidez que aportan también los tonos de la madera y el dorado, y por otro: muebles clásicos acompañados de piezas modernas, lo cual resulta en una mezcla muy acertada que le da un ambiente divertido pero a la vez elegante… ¿veamos qué te parece, ok?

Today I’d like to share a gorgeous home with lots of contrast. On one side, the traditional black and white duo, but with a dose of warm wood tones and gold. On the other side, classic furniture mixed with modern pieces, for a fun yet elegant look. Let’s take a look, shall we?

Es una belleza, ¿no crees? Llena de luz, ambientes serenos, y un estilo atemporal que seguramente seguirá luciendo genial dentro de muchos años… Mi lugar favorito, sin duda alguna, es la oficina. Ese contraste entre el escritorio y la silla me encanta,  pero lo que me enloquece es el espejo de tipo celosía… ilumina y da amplitud a todo el espacio!

A true beauty, right?  Light-filled rooms, serene spaces and a classic style that will surely look just as good in 10 years from now. My favorite room is definitely the office. I love the contrast between the desk and the ghost chair, but what I’m crazy about is the lattice mirror.. such a perfect way to add light to the space!

En la vida real, transformar un espacio y convertirlo en el lugar que soñamos suele ser mucho más lento de lo que lo quisiéramos… especialmente si, como nosotros, tienes poco presupuesto y tiempo. Los días vuelan, y cuando menos te das cuenta, resulta que  ya casi se cumplen 2 años desde aquella vez que nos propusimos por primera vez transformar el cuarto de nuestra hija. Los cambios se fueron haciendo poco a poco, primero una cosa, luego la otra… hasta hace algunas semanas en las que nos pusimos a trabajar para terminar los últimos detalles y hoy me hace mucha ilusión poder compartir los resultados  :)

In real life, transforming a space and turning it into your dream home takes far more months than what you’ve planned, especially if you, like us, are low on budget and time. Days fly by, and then you realize it’s almost 2 years since you first made plans about your daughter’s room (that’s us, again). We began by making little tweaks and minor changes, then one thing led to the other until a few weeks ago we set our minds to finish those little details missing. Now, I’m thrilled to share with you the results, at least so far :)

Me encanta ver cómo el espacio se ha acomodado a la forma de ser de nuestra hija. A ella siempre le ha gustado mucho toda la temática parisina, así que le encantaron las sábanas y el edredón “París”, de VNG, junto con su canopy “Sweet”. Aprovechando su pared pintarrón, yo le dibujé unas ventanitas muy al estilo francés para sorprenderla cuando viera su recámara.

I love how this room has turned into an expression of our daughter. She has always liked Paris, so she loved the sheets and duvet from VNG to go along with the “Sweet” canopy. Then, I drew some very French windows on her dry erase board wall to add up to the surprise.

Este lado de la pared ya lo había mostrado hace poco… prácticamente sigue igual, a excepción de los cuadros que cambiamos para que fueran a juego con el nuevo edredón. Estos son el modelo “París”, y lo que más me gusta es que el tono de azules el mismo que ya teníamos en la pared.

This side of the room, I had shown a little ago. It’s pretty much the same, except we changed the canvases to match the bedding. These are the called “Paris” and I love that the blue in the one above is just the same tone as the one on the wall.

Después de eso, fue agregar las tan anheladas cortinas (ella ya no quería las persianas)… su modelo favorito fue el “Galicia”, con sus delicadas líneas horizontales. Encima de ellas pusimos unas black out en blanco, para cuando necesite oscurecer su habitación. Usamos tubos cromados y las terminales Melfi.

Then it was just a matter of getting rid of the pink blinds, and installing the new curtains. Her favorite model is called “Galicia”, and it’s quite lovely with delicate horizontal stripes. Then, we put some white blackout curtains on top. We used the crome tube and Melfi  finial.

Como puedes ver, es un cuarto súper chiquito, pero ahora está lleno de estilo. A ella le encanta, y a mí también. Creo que quedó ideal para su edad (12 años), ya que lo quería femenino sin ser infantil. A mí me fascina el aire romántico que le aportan el canopy y las cortinas, ahora la recámara se ve mucho más “vestida” y terminada, y como las pusimos hasta el piso, le da una sensación de mayor amplitud. De hecho, a pesar del tamaño, este espacio no se siente apretado ni atiborrado… definitivamente este acomodo (igual al del cuarto de la bebé) con la cama pegada a la pared se presta mucho para los cuartos pequeñitos porque queda más lugar para moverse, y acomodar otras cosas, como en este caso, el escritorio que hicimos. Por último, los pequeños detalles, como son las flores, los viniles, la punta en la funda y demás accesorios, completan la decoración… ¿a ti qué te parece?

As you may notice, this is a tiny room, but it is now big on style. She loves it, and so do I. I think it’s perfect for her age (12) because it’s feminine without being childish. I love the romantic, airy feel the canopy and curtains give. I think in spite of its size, it doesn’t look cramped, and there’s room to move around and extra storage space in the desk and drawers. Last, but not least, it’s the little details that make it feel complete. How do you like it?

Como saben, en las últimas semanas he estado trabajando en dos proyectos que me tienen muy entusiasmada. Han sido días atareados, sin embargo han valido mucho la pena, y por fin ha llegado el momento de compartir el primero de ellos con ustedes, ¡qué emoción! Por supuesto, tomé muchas fotos como me lo pidieron :)

Este primer proyecto se trata del cuarto de una bebé que está por nacer en el verano. El espacio era originalmente la habitación de la hermanita mayor, y, como en la mayoría de nuestras casas, es muy chiquito: sólo 2.75 x 2.83 (escasos 7.80 m2). Veamos cómo lo transformamos con pintura, textiles, y algunos accesorios.

As you may be aware of, in the last couple of weeks I’ve been busy working on two projects I’m totally excited with. It’s been long days for us, but totally worth it, and now it’s finally moment to share them with you, yay! Of course, I took lots of pictures, as you asked me to :)

This first project I’m sharing is a little baby girl’s bedroom about to be born by Summer. It was originally the oldest sister’s room, and, as in most houses here in Mexico, it’s super tiny: almost 84 square ft. Let’s see how we transformed it with paint, fabric, and some accesories, shall we?

El punto de partida fue el juego de cuna Búho, del catálogo para bebés de Vianney. De ahí tomé los colores para las paredes: un aqua para la del fondo, y un lila bajito para las rayas, el resto se pintaron de blanco, para dar más amplitud al espacio, y ¡creo que nos funcionó de maravilla!

The starting point was the Owl bedding coordinate from Vianney baby. I chose the wall colors from there: a light aqua tone for the first one, and a light lilac for the stripes. The rest went white to make it feel larger. I think it worked!

Después de pintar los muros, colgamos nuevas cortinas, también pensando en generar más sensación de amplitud. Las instalamos lo más alto que pudimos por dos razones: primero, para enfatizar la altura, que es muy buena (2.50m) y segundo, porque las ventanas no tienen cerramiento, sino que terminan donde empieza el techo. Y, siguiendo el tip que les conté la última vez, las pusimos un poco afuera de las ventanas, para que la ventana se viera más grande.

After painting the walls, we hung the curtains, also thinking about making the space feel larger. We installed them the highest we could for two reasons: first of all, to emphasize the good height of the room, and second, because the windows go all the way up to the ceiling. Following the tip I shared with you last time, we hung them a little wide, to make the windows look larger.

Escogí cortinas blancas, precisamente para que el espacio se sintiera amplio, además de que sabía que iban a verse muy lindas con la pared a rayas de fondo. Las cortinas traslúcidas son el modelo Tergal blanco. También pusimos cortinas con black out, para que el cuarto pueda oscurecerse cuando la bebé duerma, y son el modelo Black out blanco. La terminal tan linda es el modelo Melfi, todo de Vianney.

I chose white curtains because I wanted to keep adding to the sense of space, plus I knew they’d look extra cute with the stripes on the wall. The sheers are the model Tergal in white, and the others are the Blackout model in white, from Vianney. The finial and hardware is the Melfi model.

En la pared blanca pusimos el set de viniles Búho, a juego….

Then we added some decals…

…y el tapete Sweet, junto con una mesa y banquitos que ya tenían en casa.

La cuna la cambiamos de lugar, en vez de estar en el centro ocupando el poco espacio del cuarto, la pusimos a un lado, dejando la mitad de la habitación desocupada para las demás cosas. Por último, hice un móvil para la bebé de mariposas, inspirada en mi hermana que hizo lo mismo en el cuarto de su bebé. Mucha gente me ha preguntado cómo se hace, así que estoy preparando un post con el tutorial :)

A huge change was placing the crib to the side, leaving half of the room empty for the table and benches. Last but not least, I made a butterfly chandelier for the baby, inspired in the one my sister made for her baby’s room. Many of you have asked me how to make them, so I’m working on the tutorial :)

Sin duda, el trabajo valió la pena, pues a los futuros papás les encantó la transformación (y a mí también). El espacio ahora luce mejor y cuenta con más espacio para que las niñas jueguen y se diviertan, una vez que la bebé haya crecido un poquitín. :) Como ves, aún los cuartos más chiquitos pueden convertirse en espacios hermosos, como siempre soñamos.

There’s no doubt, the hard work was all worth it, for the future parents are happy with the makeover (and so am I). The room feels so much better, and it’s got more space for the girl’s to play and have fun.

Mientras tanto, te quiero compartir un pequeño departamento muy inspirador, lleno de espacios lindos y serenos, con un estilo contemporáneo, clásico y a la vez moderno. En fin, ¡espero lo disfrutes!

If you follow me on Instagram you’ll know I’ve been pretty busy lately. I’ve been working on two special projects, and can’t wait to share them with you, so hopefully I’ll get done with the photo selection and the writing soon. In the meantime, a cute small apartment with lots of inspiring spaces, both pretty and serene, and a classic, modern contemporary style. I hope you enjoy it!

Una de las cosas que más me inspira es encontrar espacios pequeños aprovechados al máximo. Creo que las casas o departamentos chiquitos no son impedimento para vivir con estilo, sin embargo son la realidad que la mayoría de nosotros enfrentamos a diario, y por eso me gusta mucho compartir aquéllos que encuentro con ustedes. Este departamento que a continuación te muestro tiene tan sólo 40 m2… y mira qué lindo se ve.

One of the things I enjoy the most is finding tiny spaces with tons of style. And, since most of us deal with a small house or apartment, I love sharing those finds with you, trying to share inspiration for us to transform our places into our dream homes, no matter the size. This next apartment is only 430 square ft, and yet, look how lovely it is.

¿Qué te parece? Me encanta cómo se diferencian las zonas con páneles de cristal, puertas que se deslizan y cambios de color en la pared. La sala se separa de la recámara por una puerta corrediza, de manera que se da privacidad conforme se requiera. Además, la paleta de colores es muy linda y delicada, y el blanco en los muebles sirve mucho para no saturar el espacio. Definitivamente una de mis casas favoritas.

How do you like it? I love how the panels and sliding doors help create different spaces. The living room is separated from the bedroom with sliding doors, which is totally functional. Besides, I love the color palette, so sweet and modern, and the white furniture helps to keep things clean and simple. Definitely one of my favorite homes.

Como recordarás, hace un mes que instalamos cortinas en nuestra sala, y nos encanta. El cambio principal, además de que el espacio luce más completo y vestido, es que las ventanas y las paredes se ven más amplias, y eso, en un espacio pequeño como el nuestro, es increíble.

As you may remember, about a month ago, we installed curtains in our living room, and we love it. The main change, besides having better window treatments, is the windows and walls look so much larger, and that is really appreciated, especially in a small space, like ours.

Ustedes ya se saben la historia del antes y el después, sin embargo, hay un par de secretos que no les he contado, y hoy les voy a compartir.

You know the before and after story, however, there are a couple of secrets I haven’t told anyone, and I’ve finally managed to have some time to spill the beans.

Primero: Para lograr que las cortinas se vieran como yo quería, tuve que meter tijera. Las cortinas originales eran así:

First: To get the curtains to look the way I wanted, I had to use my scissors. They originally came like this:

Pero yo no las quería con esos “tirantes”, especialmente porque no iba a poner otra cortina encima de ellas. Así que sacrificando altura por vista, me decidí a arreglar el asunto fácilmente:

I didn’t want them hanging like that, especially because I wasn’t putting any other curtains in front of them. So, sacrifying height for looks, I decided to tackle the issue easily:

Fuera tirantes, ¡hola cortinas nuevas!

Out curtain suspenders, hello new window treatments!

El segundo truco, es muy conocido, pero por si acaso tú no lo has escuchado, aquí te va:

“Para crear la sensación de amplitud, coloca las cortinas lo más arriba y a los lados posible”.

The other trick is very popular, but in case you haven’t heard of it, here it goes:

“Create the feeling of larger windows, by hanging the curtains high and wide”.

Este truco es muy sencillo, y el cambio es impresionante… en este dibujo que hice, las dos paredes y las dos ventanas son del mismo tamaño. Lo que cambia, son las cortinas. En nuestro caso, las persianas que teníamos estaban colgadas como en el segundo dibujo: bajas, angostas y cortitas… en pocas palabras, fatal.

This is a very simple trick, and the change really is huge. In this illustration I made, both walls and windows are the same size; the curtains are not. In our case, the shades where hanging like the second picture: low, narrow, and short. Not nice.

Para cerrar la semana con mucha inspiración, tenemos un espacio verdaderamente sencillo, pero a la vez lindo y chic. Un comedor diferente, con una banca larga de un lado, y sillas del otro. La disposición de los elementos es muy simple, permitiendo a cada uno brillar por sí mismo y armonizar en conjunto. Me encanta la combinación de todos los colores… morados, dorados, grises, azules y verdes. Pareciera demasiado, y sin embargo todo luce tan equilibrado.  El toque de elegancia lo aportan por supuesto el espejo y el candelabro. Sin duda, una excelente idea para quienes quieren aprovechar al máximo un espacio reducido, con todo el estilo.

Let’s wrap up the week with a gorgeous space, both simple and chic. This is no ordinary dining room, with a slipcovered bench on one side, and chairs on the other. Everything is arranged very effortlessly, allowing each element to shine on its own and altogether. I especially love the color combination, with purple, gold, silver, turquoise, and green. One would think it’s too much, and yet it looks so balanced and perfect. An excellent idea for small spaces with huge style!

Seguimos con inspiración para los diferentes espacios de la casa, en esta ocasión, nos vamos a un cuarto de lavado que estoy segura te inspirará.  Yo sé que hay cuartos más pequeñitos que éste, pero para sus 3 x 1.80 m, es todo un ejemplo de organización y máximo uso de los espacios. Lo mejor de todo es que es verdaderamente lindo :)

It’s inspiration for your home, now being the turn of the laundry room. I know there are even smaller spaces than this but, at 10 x 6 ft, this lovely room is a great example of organization and space maximizing. Best of all, it’s oh so lovely :)

Ver estas imágenes me hace recordar a nuestro cuarto de lavado. No, no porque esté así de bonito (ya quisiera), sino porque ha estado muy relegado últimamente (qué pena!)… probablemente 2013 sea un buen año para transformarlo y organizarlo mejor. Quizá pronto comencemos a atacar, ¡muajaja!

This gorgeous photos remind me of our own laundry room. Not because it’s this lovely (I wish!), but because it’s been so neglected over the last months (shame on me!). Perhaps 2013 is the year for a laundry makeover? We might tackle it soon!

Hace muchos meses que iniciamos con la renovación del cuarto de nuestra hija, pero desde que le mandamos hacer su escritorio y repisas ya no habíamos tenido avances –hasta hoy. Finalmente me decidí a hacer los pequeños cambios que teníamos pendientes y debo decir que me encanta cómo se alegró y mejoró el espacio. En caso de que no lo recuerden, así lucía hasta ayer:

We started our daughter’s room makeover several months ago, but since we had her desk and shelves made, we hadn’t done anything else –that is, until today. I finally decided to tackle little changes we had overdue, and I must say I’m loving how the space looks more joyful and fresh. In case you don’t remember, this is how it looked like until yesterday:

En realidad son muy pocos y sencillos los cambios, pero creo que hacen una gran diferencia en cuanto a que el cuarto se ve más cálido, divertido y completo. Por supuesto, ya tenemos la silla… pero además, coloqué unas pequeñas lámparas de led que había comprado hace tiempo.

The changes are few and rather simple, but I like the huge difference they make. The room looks fun and more complete. Of course, we have a chair now, but I also put little led lighting underneath the lower shelf. I had bought them quite a while ago (shame on me!).

Son muy fáciles de poner, sólo se pegan con cinta de doble cara y ya.

They are really easy to “install”. I just used double side tape.

Los cuadros son el juego “Chic” del catálogo VNG. Me encanta porque van muy bien con el tono aqua que ya teníamos en la pared. :)

The wall art is from VNG. I love how well they go with the aqua tone my daughter chose for the wall.

Las mariposas son los viniles “Butterfly”, también del catálogo VNG, de Vianney.

The butterflies are wall decals, also from VNG.

Los demás detalles son los que nuestra hija ya tenía en su cuarto.

The other accesories were already in the room.

En el marco, una pequeña reproducción de una de mis acuarelas, al lado de la caja de cartón, pintada por ella hace un par de años…

In the frame, a small reproduction of one of my watercolors, next to the cardboard box painted by our daughter a couple of years ago.

Todavía nos faltan algunas otras cosas, pero por lo pronto este pequeño gran avance me tiene muy contenta. A ti ¿qué te parece? ¡Me encantará conocer tu opinión!

Todo mundo adora las buenas transformaciones, ¿cierto? Mejor aún las que se hacen en poco tiempo y con poco presupuesto. Justo de eso se trata el post de hoy: un “antes y después” realizado en 2 días y con $150 dólares. ¿Listo para las fotos?

So everybody likes a good “before and after”, right? Better yet when it’s made with little time and a low budget. Well, then you’ll love today’s post: a bedroom makeover made in 2 days and with only $150. Ready for the photos?

Vaya cambio, ¿no crees? Me gusta mucho cómo se siente el espacio con la pared gris oscura y los muebles en blanco. De esa manera, los accesorios con colores brillantes lucen lindos y frescos. Obviamente para conseguir una transformación con tan poco dinero, muchas cosas se hicieron; no se compraron. Por ejemplo, la cabecera, el buró, los cojines, los relojes, todos fueron proyectos diy (o hum: hágalo usted mismo), y eso me encanta. De hecho, cada que veo una transformación así, me dan ganas de tomar mis latas de pintura y atacar nuestra casa en mis mejores fachas. Si no tuviera que ir a la oficina, ya estaría haciéndolo (es mi sueño, lo saben, ¿verdad?).

Hablando de oficina, es hora ya de ir a trabajar… he tenido semanas muy pesadas y por eso no he podido pasar a visitar blogs y comentar… prometo ponerme al corriente prontito :)

Talk about makeovers, right? I love how the space feels fresh and modern with the dark grey wall and the white elements, and it makes the color accesories pop. Obviously, transforming something with that little money means diy everywhere, which I totally love. For instance, the headboard, side table, pillows, clocks, all of them where diy projects. Actually, this kind of makeovers make me so anxious to take my brushes and paints and tackle a room. If I didn’t have to go to the office I would (you know I would).

Speaking about that, it’s time to go to work… by the way, I’ve been having lots of things to do everywhere, so I’m really sorry for not visiting my blog friends and commenting… I promise to catch up with that really soon. :)
