Una de las cosas que más me inspira es encontrar espacios pequeños aprovechados al máximo. Creo que las casas o departamentos chiquitos no son impedimento para vivir con estilo, sin embargo son la realidad que la mayoría de nosotros enfrentamos a diario, y por eso me gusta mucho compartir aquéllos que encuentro con ustedes. Este departamento que a continuación te muestro tiene tan sólo 40 m2… y mira qué lindo se ve.
One of the things I enjoy the most is finding tiny spaces with tons of style. And, since most of us deal with a small house or apartment, I love sharing those finds with you, trying to share inspiration for us to transform our places into our dream homes, no matter the size. This next apartment is only 430 square ft, and yet, look how lovely it is.
¿Qué te parece? Me encanta cómo se diferencian las zonas con páneles de cristal, puertas que se deslizan y cambios de color en la pared. La sala se separa de la recámara por una puerta corrediza, de manera que se da privacidad conforme se requiera. Además, la paleta de colores es muy linda y delicada, y el blanco en los muebles sirve mucho para no saturar el espacio. Definitivamente una de mis casas favoritas.
How do you like it? I love how the panels and sliding doors help create different spaces. The living room is separated from the bedroom with sliding doors, which is totally functional. Besides, I love the color palette, so sweet and modern, and the white furniture helps to keep things clean and simple. Definitely one of my favorite homes.
Por fin es viernes :) Para este día, una hermosa y sencilla inspiración: un antecomedor de madera es llevado al siguiente nivel con accesorios de color, ideales para la primavera. Las cortinas enrollables son muy lindas, y resaltan de todo el blanco de fondo, además de que permiten que las lámparas sobresalgan. Agregamos flores como toque final, y listo, un comedor moderno, fresco y alegre.

Yay, it´s Friday! How about simple but beautiful inspiration for today? This kitchen-dining room is taken to the next level with pops of color, perfect for Spring. The curtains are really pretty, and they make the pendants stand out. Cushions and table runner coordinate with other accesories. As a final touch, flowers. A bright, modern and cheerful dining room.
Como recordarás, hace un mes que instalamos cortinas en nuestra sala, y nos encanta. El cambio principal, además de que el espacio luce más completo y vestido, es que las ventanas y las paredes se ven más amplias, y eso, en un espacio pequeño como el nuestro, es increíble.
As you may remember, about a month ago, we installed curtains in our living room, and we love it. The main change, besides having better window treatments, is the windows and walls look so much larger, and that is really appreciated, especially in a small space, like ours.

You know the before and after story, however, there are a couple of secrets I haven’t told anyone, and I’ve finally managed to have some time to spill the beans.

Primero: Para lograr que las cortinas se vieran como yo quería, tuve que meter tijera. Las cortinas originales eran así:
First: To get the curtains to look the way I wanted, I had to use my scissors. They originally came like this:
Pero yo no las quería con esos “tirantes”, especialmente porque no iba a poner otra cortina encima de ellas. Así que sacrificando altura por vista, me decidí a arreglar el asunto fácilmente:
I didn’t want them hanging like that, especially because I wasn’t putting any other curtains in front of them. So, sacrifying height for looks, I decided to tackle the issue easily:

El segundo truco, es muy conocido, pero por si acaso tú no lo has escuchado, aquí te va:
“Para crear la sensación de amplitud, coloca las cortinas lo más arriba y a los lados posible”.
The other trick is very popular, but in case you haven’t heard of it, here it goes:
“Create the feeling of larger windows, by hanging the curtains high and wide”.
Este truco es muy sencillo, y el cambio es impresionante… en este dibujo que hice, las dos paredes y las dos ventanas son del mismo tamaño. Lo que cambia, son las cortinas. En nuestro caso, las persianas que teníamos estaban colgadas como en el segundo dibujo: bajas, angostas y cortitas… en pocas palabras, fatal.
This is a very simple trick, and the change really is huge. In this illustration I made, both walls and windows are the same size; the curtains are not. In our case, the shades where hanging like the second picture: low, narrow, and short. Not nice.

Hoy les quiero hablar de mi último descubrimiento: Studio Victoria, una empresa orgullosamente tapatía, con 70 años de experiencia en la fabricación y diseño de mosaico artesanal, también conocido como suelo de baldosa hidráulica.
Today I would like to tell you about my latest discovery: Studio Victoria, a Mexican firm with over 70 years of experience in designing and making of encaustic cement tiles.
Como saben, este tipo de piso se usó mucho en los años 60′s y 70′s, y hace algunos años volvió con muchísima fuerza. El uso de estos mosaicos es ahora una gran tendencia de decoración en los proyectos de interiorismo, tanto comerciales como residenciales, no sólo aquí, sino en todo el mundo. Se trata de un material muy resistente y amigable con la naturaleza, por su proceso de fabricación artesanal, y lo podemos encontrar en todo tipo de espacios: cocinas, baños, salas, comedores, recámaras, etc.
In Mexico, this tile was very popular during the 60′s and 70′s, and it has made a huge comeback. This is a gorgeous trend for all kinds of interior design projects, all over the world. Encaustic cement tile is very resistent, and due to its artisan manufacturing process it’s Earth-friendly. You can find it in all kinds of spaces: kitchens, bathrooms, living rooms, dining rooms, you name it.
Su toque nostálgico queda hermoso en cualquier estilo de decoración. A mí, en lo particular, me encanta cuando se usa en espacios de estilo escandinavo, marroquí, o vintage… en realidad me fascina cómo tiene la capacidad de levantar cualquier espacio en el que se usa. Sus diseños son de esas cosas que adoro desde pequeña.
Also known as hydraulic tiles, they have a lovely nostalgic feel to them that make them perfect for any space, both casual and formal. I personally love how gorgeous they look in Scandinavian or Moroccan designs. The lovely patterns make me sigh since I was little.

Por fin, la espera ha terminado. H & M vino con todo a México, y ahora acaba de abrir su primer tienda H & M Home, en el Centro Santa Fe, en la Ciudad de México. Con la misma filosofía que sus tiendas de ropa, la línea para el hogar viene con varias colecciones, todas ellas llenas de hermosos accesorios y objetos a un precio accesible.
The wait is finally over, as H & M has just opened its first H & M Home store in Mexico City. With the same philosophy and in its fashion line, the home collections are filled with beautiful accesories and home elements at an affordable price tag. Couldn’t get any better than that!
Espero que esta apertura sea la primera de muchas, y que pronto estén inaugurando la de Guadalajara. Mientras tanto, aquí algunas de las colecciones para esta primavera 2013 que me tienen suspirando. :)

De por sí, es un cuarto que suele quedar en el olvido… cuando por fin queremos mejorarlo, creo que el reto de hacer un espacio tan chiquitito dificulta mucho más las cosas. I think one of the hardest rooms to decorate in a small home is the bathroom. It’s generally the place we least think of, and when we do, facing the challenge of a tiny space makes it tough. Esta semana ha sido particularmente pesada. Ustedes no están para saberlo ni yo para contarlo, pero en la oficina he estado cubriendo a una compañera, lo cual hace que mi trabajo se duplique, y luego está el cierre de mes que siempre llega cargado… Pero no me quejo, también se vienen muchos proyectos personales que me tienen muy entusiasmada, así que espero poco a poco acomodar la agenda y darle salida a las cosas…
This week has been filled with tons of work. A coworker has been ill, so I’ve been doing both of our jobs, and then there’s the end of the month which brings loads of paperwork and stuff to deal with. Anyway, I’m not complaining, there are many interesting personal projects coming soon, so I’m excited. Hopefully I can squeeze everything in. :)
Mientras tanto, un break mental. Siguiendo con la inercia del rosa, te invito a sentarnos en esta linda sala… perfecta para dar la bienvenida a la primavera. Debo decirlo, nunca hubiera pensado que el rosa se ve tan lindo, generalmente lo pienso y me empalaga, y sin embargo, tanto en el post de ayer como en el de hoy me parece hermoso. La dosis perfecta. :)

In the meantime, a mental break, shall we? Let’s sit down in this lovely living room… perfectly styled for Spring. I must say, I would have never thought pink would look so gorgeous, I generally find it too girly, and yet, yesterday’s photos as well as this one have the perfect amount and shade. Love them!
Hace muchos meses que iniciamos con la renovación del cuarto de nuestra hija, pero desde que le mandamos hacer su escritorio y repisas ya no habíamos tenido avances –hasta hoy. Finalmente me decidí a hacer los pequeños cambios que teníamos pendientes y debo decir que me encanta cómo se alegró y mejoró el espacio. En caso de que no lo recuerden, así lucía hasta ayer:
We started our daughter’s room makeover several months ago, but since we had her desk and shelves made, we hadn’t done anything else –that is, until today. I finally decided to tackle little changes we had overdue, and I must say I’m loving how the space looks more joyful and fresh. In case you don’t remember, this is how it looked like until yesterday:

En realidad son muy pocos y sencillos los cambios, pero creo que hacen una gran diferencia en cuanto a que el cuarto se ve más cálido, divertido y completo. Por supuesto, ya tenemos la silla… pero además, coloqué unas pequeñas lámparas de led que había comprado hace tiempo.
The changes are few and rather simple, but I like the huge difference they make. The room looks fun and more complete. Of course, we have a chair now, but I also put little led lighting underneath the lower shelf. I had bought them quite a while ago (shame on me!).
Son muy fáciles de poner, sólo se pegan con cinta de doble cara y ya.
They are really easy to “install”. I just used double side tape.
Los cuadros son el juego “Chic” del catálogo VNG. Me encanta porque van muy bien con el tono aqua que ya teníamos en la pared. :)
The wall art is from VNG. I love how well they go with the aqua tone my daughter chose for the wall.

Anoche estaba pensando en lo mucho que me gusta la mezcla del estilo escandinavo + el estilo marroquí. Espacios muy blancos y luminosos, con algo de gris, más acentos de madera, piezas con mucho carácter, y por supuesto, los patrones geométricos islámicos que tanto me gustan. Y justo en ese momento, fue cuando recordé que no había compartido con ustedes mi más reciente descubrimiento: El Ramla Hamra.
Last night, I was thinking about how much I love the mix between Scandinavian + Moroccan style. Very bright spaces, with lots of white and gray, wood accents, pieces with lots of character, and then of course, the thing I love the most: geometric Islamic patterns… and right then I realized I hadn’t shared with you my latest discovery: El Ramla Hamra.
El Ramla Hamra es una tienda de los Países Bajos que vende accesorios directamente de Marruecos. Son piezas hermosas, en su mayoría hechas a mano… y lucen perfectas en decoración más contemporánea. Una mezcla increíble que luce impecable en su catálogo… éstas son algunas de las fotos que más me gustaron. Espero las disfrutes :)
El Ramla Hamra is a shop from the Netherlands selling accesories from Morocco. Gorgeous pieces, most of them handmade, perfect for contemporary spaces. Just taking a look at their catalogue made me fall in love. Such a great styling, by the way. Here are my favorite photos, hope you enjoy them :)

With merely 54 sq meters, this tiny Stockholm apartment is very inspiring, filled with beautiful space saving details. Its design is perfect for maximizing every inch, and its contemporary Scandinavian style is both fresh and sleek.
Como siempre, me encanta la combinación blanco y negro, con detalles de color y en madera. El espacio es muy abierto, lo cual por supuesto ayuda a la sensación de amplitud, y los muebles fueron bien escogidos para no saturar el lugar, sino aprovecharlo. Me encanta la gran pared de fondo, muy bien aprovechada para generar un lugar para el mueble de tv, la chimenea, y un rincón de trabajo con librero. Y por supuesto, el pequeño balcón, ideal para disfrutar esas vistas preciosas. Sin duda un departamento increíble y súper inspirador. :)
As always, I love the black and white palette, with little splashes of color and natural wood tones. I also love the open space, and how the furniture is not saturating the rooms. Oh, and then there’s the large white wall, perfectly designed to make room for the media storage, the chimney, and a office nook with wall shelving. Then finally, the tiny balcony, with the gorgeous views. Super inspiring!
