En la vida real, transformar un espacio y convertirlo en el lugar que soñamos suele ser mucho más lento de lo que lo quisiéramos… especialmente si, como nosotros, tienes poco presupuesto y tiempo. Los días vuelan, y cuando menos te das cuenta, resulta que  ya casi se cumplen 2 años desde aquella vez que nos propusimos por primera vez transformar el cuarto de nuestra hija. Los cambios se fueron haciendo poco a poco, primero una cosa, luego la otra… hasta hace algunas semanas en las que nos pusimos a trabajar para terminar los últimos detalles y hoy me hace mucha ilusión poder compartir los resultados  :)

In real life, transforming a space and turning it into your dream home takes far more months than what you’ve planned, especially if you, like us, are low on budget and time. Days fly by, and then you realize it’s almost 2 years since you first made plans about your daughter’s room (that’s us, again). We began by making little tweaks and minor changes, then one thing led to the other until a few weeks ago we set our minds to finish those little details missing. Now, I’m thrilled to share with you the results, at least so far :)

Me encanta ver cómo el espacio se ha acomodado a la forma de ser de nuestra hija. A ella siempre le ha gustado mucho toda la temática parisina, así que le encantaron las sábanas y el edredón “París”, de VNG, junto con su canopy “Sweet”. Aprovechando su pared pintarrón, yo le dibujé unas ventanitas muy al estilo francés para sorprenderla cuando viera su recámara.

I love how this room has turned into an expression of our daughter. She has always liked Paris, so she loved the sheets and duvet from VNG to go along with the “Sweet” canopy. Then, I drew some very French windows on her dry erase board wall to add up to the surprise.

Este lado de la pared ya lo había mostrado hace poco… prácticamente sigue igual, a excepción de los cuadros que cambiamos para que fueran a juego con el nuevo edredón. Estos son el modelo “París”, y lo que más me gusta es que el tono de azules el mismo que ya teníamos en la pared.

This side of the room, I had shown a little ago. It’s pretty much the same, except we changed the canvases to match the bedding. These are the called “Paris” and I love that the blue in the one above is just the same tone as the one on the wall.

Después de eso, fue agregar las tan anheladas cortinas (ella ya no quería las persianas)… su modelo favorito fue el “Galicia”, con sus delicadas líneas horizontales. Encima de ellas pusimos unas black out en blanco, para cuando necesite oscurecer su habitación. Usamos tubos cromados y las terminales Melfi.

Then it was just a matter of getting rid of the pink blinds, and installing the new curtains. Her favorite model is called “Galicia”, and it’s quite lovely with delicate horizontal stripes. Then, we put some white blackout curtains on top. We used the crome tube and Melfi  finial.

Como puedes ver, es un cuarto súper chiquito, pero ahora está lleno de estilo. A ella le encanta, y a mí también. Creo que quedó ideal para su edad (12 años), ya que lo quería femenino sin ser infantil. A mí me fascina el aire romántico que le aportan el canopy y las cortinas, ahora la recámara se ve mucho más “vestida” y terminada, y como las pusimos hasta el piso, le da una sensación de mayor amplitud. De hecho, a pesar del tamaño, este espacio no se siente apretado ni atiborrado… definitivamente este acomodo (igual al del cuarto de la bebé) con la cama pegada a la pared se presta mucho para los cuartos pequeñitos porque queda más lugar para moverse, y acomodar otras cosas, como en este caso, el escritorio que hicimos. Por último, los pequeños detalles, como son las flores, los viniles, la punta en la funda y demás accesorios, completan la decoración… ¿a ti qué te parece?

As you may notice, this is a tiny room, but it is now big on style. She loves it, and so do I. I think it’s perfect for her age (12) because it’s feminine without being childish. I love the romantic, airy feel the canopy and curtains give. I think in spite of its size, it doesn’t look cramped, and there’s room to move around and extra storage space in the desk and drawers. Last, but not least, it’s the little details that make it feel complete. How do you like it?

Entre la gran cantidad de hermosos interiores que veo todos los días, cada determinado tiempo me pasa que encuentro una casa que me vuelve loca… una en la que quisiera moverme para quedarme a vivir ahí. Bueno, pues eso me pasó cuando encontré esta casa increíble que te muestro a continuación:

Among the many gorgeous interiors I see everyday in the blogosphere, every once in a while I find a house that REALLY turn me on, one that I wish I could move in and make my own. That’s exactly what happened to me when I found this amazing home:

No es de extrañar que sea de estilo escandinavo, con lo mucho que me gustan los tonos grises, blancos y negros, con toques de madera y fibras naturales. Cada uno de los espacios es hermoso y me encanta, con sus muros de acento en tonos neutros y serenos, muebles blancos y mucha textura. También me fascinan las lámparas, linternas y demás accesorios, bien ubicados en cada lugar. Absolutamente todo me gusta, pero si tuviera que escoger un punto favorito, sin duda sería la cocina: moderna pero acogedora… para suspirar.

Of course, there’s no wonder it’s a gorgeous Scandinavian home, considering how much I love gray, black, white, wood-tone accents, and natural fibers. Each room is absolutely beautiful and I love it, with the accent walls in neutral, serene tones, white furniture and lots of texture. I’m really in love with it all, but if I had to choose my favorite spot, it would definitely be the kitchen: both modern and cozy… to die for!

¿Puedes creer que ya pasó un mes de nuestra última quedada virtual? ¡No cabe duda de que el tiempo pasa volando!

Can you believe it’s been a month since our last “Meet you at” post? Time flies!

Como sabes, cada mes un grupo de bloggers y yo nos reunimos virtualmente para hablar de un mismo espacio y así ofrecer diferentes perspectivas de decoración. En esta ocasión nos citamos en un lugar muy particular: las escaleras. Y yo ya estoy lista, esperándolos en un rincón muy acogedor :) ¿Me acompañas?

As you may know, each month a group of fellow bloggers and I gather virtually to talk about a same space, and offer different points of view. This time, we are meeting in a pretty particular space: the stairs. And I’m ready for them, waiting in a cozy nook :) Care to join me?

Las escaleras son uno de esos espacios “pequeños” por así llamarles, ¡pero con tanto potencial! Se pueden hacer cosas sobre ellas, pero yo preferí este espacio que muestra lo que se puede hacer debajo de ellas. Un hermoso rincón para descansar y leer. ¡Cómo me encantaría tener uno, y más así de bonito! Es un lugar que se antoja, con cierto toque escandinavo, lleno de grises, blancos, negro y por supuesto, el toque cálido de la madera. Los cojines y la manta añaden calidez… definitivamente un pedacito de cielo :)

The stairs are one of those small “spaces” so to speak with lots of potential. There are literally hundreds of amazing inspiring pics out there, but I chose this one because I love reading nooks, and this one is so gorgeous! I would love to have one all for myself. It’s so inviting, with a little dose of Scandinavian feel to it, grays, whites, black and wooden tones, pillows and a throw that make it so cozy! A small piece of heaven right in your home :)

Una de las cosas que más me inspira es encontrar espacios pequeños aprovechados al máximo. Creo que las casas o departamentos chiquitos no son impedimento para vivir con estilo, sin embargo son la realidad que la mayoría de nosotros enfrentamos a diario, y por eso me gusta mucho compartir aquéllos que encuentro con ustedes. Este departamento que a continuación te muestro tiene tan sólo 40 m2… y mira qué lindo se ve.

One of the things I enjoy the most is finding tiny spaces with tons of style. And, since most of us deal with a small house or apartment, I love sharing those finds with you, trying to share inspiration for us to transform our places into our dream homes, no matter the size. This next apartment is only 430 square ft, and yet, look how lovely it is.

¿Qué te parece? Me encanta cómo se diferencian las zonas con páneles de cristal, puertas que se deslizan y cambios de color en la pared. La sala se separa de la recámara por una puerta corrediza, de manera que se da privacidad conforme se requiera. Además, la paleta de colores es muy linda y delicada, y el blanco en los muebles sirve mucho para no saturar el espacio. Definitivamente una de mis casas favoritas.

How do you like it? I love how the panels and sliding doors help create different spaces. The living room is separated from the bedroom with sliding doors, which is totally functional. Besides, I love the color palette, so sweet and modern, and the white furniture helps to keep things clean and simple. Definitely one of my favorite homes.

Spring has officially sprung! That’s why my fellow bloggers and I have decided to virtually meet at a Spring space, fresh and ready for the season :)

Mi propuesta para esta ocasión es esta bellísima cocina blanca. Al verla, inmediatamente pensé en la frescura y alegría de la primavera, gracias a toda esa luz y flores, y por supuesto, gracias también a ese toque inesperado de amarillo, que ilumina todo el espacio y le inyecta mucha vida.  Ahora que están de moda las cocinas de dos colores, ésta es una manera muy original de incorporarlo, ¿no crees?

The space I chose this time is a gorgeous white kitchen, which immediately set my mind into Spring mode, thanks to all that light and beautiful flowers, and of course, the unexpected touch of yellow. Now that two-toned kitchens are a huge trend, this is a very original way to go for it, don’t you think?

Creo que uno de los espacios más difíciles de decorar en las casas pequeñas es el baño. De por sí, es un cuarto que suele quedar en el olvido… cuando por fin queremos mejorarlo, creo que el reto de hacer un espacio tan chiquitito dificulta mucho más las cosas. Así que, con eso en mente, aquí unas imágenes de baños lindos con buenas ideas para almacenamiento… espero te gusten ;)

I think one of the hardest rooms to decorate in a small home is the bathroom. It’s generally the place we least think of, and when we do, facing the challenge of a tiny space makes it tough. Me encanta la idea de acoplar alguna cómoda antigua y convertirla en el mueble de baño… un estilo cottage contemporáneo hermoso :) También me gustan mucho los baños con madera al natural, creo que le aporta mucha calidez, ¿no te parece?

I love the idea of using and old piece of furniture as a vanity… such a pretty contemporary cottage style :) I also like the bathrooms with natural wood in them. It adds a beautiful sense of warmth, don’t you think?

Esta semana ha sido particularmente pesada. Ustedes no están para saberlo ni yo para contarlo, pero en la oficina he estado cubriendo a una compañera, lo cual hace que mi trabajo se duplique, y luego está el cierre de mes que siempre llega cargado… Pero no me quejo, también se vienen muchos proyectos personales que me tienen muy entusiasmada, así que espero poco a poco acomodar la agenda y darle salida a las cosas…

This week has been filled with tons of work. A coworker has been ill, so I’ve been doing both of our jobs, and then there’s the end of the month which brings loads of paperwork and stuff to deal with. Anyway, I’m not complaining, there are many interesting personal projects coming soon, so I’m excited. Hopefully I can squeeze everything in. :)

Mientras tanto, un break mental. Siguiendo con la inercia del rosa, te invito a sentarnos en esta linda sala… perfecta para dar la bienvenida a la primavera. Debo decirlo, nunca hubiera pensado que el rosa se ve tan lindo, generalmente lo pienso y me empalaga, y sin embargo, tanto en el post de ayer como en el de hoy me parece hermoso. La dosis perfecta. :)

El día de hoy, una transformación muy inspiradora. Una cocina regular convertida en un hermoso espacio, lista para aparecer en cualquier revista de diseño. ¿Lo mejor? Toda la transformación corrió a cargo de la dueña de la casa, con poca experiencia previa, pero eso sí, con mucha motivación. No pude evitar acordarme de nuestra cocina, y cómo hace ya 2 años nosotros también decidimos pintarla de blanco, iniciando así nuestra primera transformación (toda la historia aquí).

Today, we’re talking about a really inspiring makeover. An ordinary kitchen transformed into an extraordinary space, ready for any magazine shoot. The best thing of all? It’s a DIY project, so it’s pretty motivating. I couldn’t help remembering our own kitchen, and how 2 years ago we also decided to paint it white, starting our first ever makeover story.

¿Verdad que es hermoso? Cristina hizo todo: pintó los gabinetes de blanco, instaló molduras y mosaicos… en fin, ¡una transformación increíble!

Por supuesto que pintar la carpintería es un trabajo duro y tardado, pero no imposible. Es una forma realmente económica de renovar la cocina, con excelentes resultados. Yo, personalmente, me siento muy feliz de haberlo hecho, y lo volvería hacer. Es sólo cuestión de animarse ;)

Y tú, ¿te apuntas?

Painting the kitchen cabinets is hard work, but it’s not impossible. It’s a cheap way to transform the kitchen, with amazing results. I personally feel really happy to have done it, and would do it again. It’s just a matter of making up your mind.

Hace muchos meses que iniciamos con la renovación del cuarto de nuestra hija, pero desde que le mandamos hacer su escritorio y repisas ya no habíamos tenido avances –hasta hoy. Finalmente me decidí a hacer los pequeños cambios que teníamos pendientes y debo decir que me encanta cómo se alegró y mejoró el espacio. En caso de que no lo recuerden, así lucía hasta ayer:

We started our daughter’s room makeover several months ago, but since we had her desk and shelves made, we hadn’t done anything else –that is, until today. I finally decided to tackle little changes we had overdue, and I must say I’m loving how the space looks more joyful and fresh. In case you don’t remember, this is how it looked like until yesterday:

En realidad son muy pocos y sencillos los cambios, pero creo que hacen una gran diferencia en cuanto a que el cuarto se ve más cálido, divertido y completo. Por supuesto, ya tenemos la silla… pero además, coloqué unas pequeñas lámparas de led que había comprado hace tiempo.

The changes are few and rather simple, but I like the huge difference they make. The room looks fun and more complete. Of course, we have a chair now, but I also put little led lighting underneath the lower shelf. I had bought them quite a while ago (shame on me!).

Son muy fáciles de poner, sólo se pegan con cinta de doble cara y ya.

They are really easy to “install”. I just used double side tape.

Los cuadros son el juego “Chic” del catálogo VNG. Me encanta porque van muy bien con el tono aqua que ya teníamos en la pared. :)

The wall art is from VNG. I love how well they go with the aqua tone my daughter chose for the wall.

Las mariposas son los viniles “Butterfly”, también del catálogo VNG, de Vianney.

The butterflies are wall decals, also from VNG.

Los demás detalles son los que nuestra hija ya tenía en su cuarto.

The other accesories were already in the room.

En el marco, una pequeña reproducción de una de mis acuarelas, al lado de la caja de cartón, pintada por ella hace un par de años…

In the frame, a small reproduction of one of my watercolors, next to the cardboard box painted by our daughter a couple of years ago.

Todavía nos faltan algunas otras cosas, pero por lo pronto este pequeño gran avance me tiene muy contenta. A ti ¿qué te parece? ¡Me encantará conocer tu opinión!

There are still some things left to do in this room, but in the meantime, this small change has made me really happy. How do you like it? I would love to hear what you think!
