Arte, buenos momentos, y naturaleza es una buena manera de resumir lo que han sido estos últimos días. Sé que no he estado posteando tanto como me gusta hacerlo, pero he estado trabajando en muchos nuevos proyectos que me tienen muy entusiasmada, y también muy ocupada. Si me sigues en instagram sabrás que tengo algunos meses trazando y creando obra nueva. Ésta en particular está recién salida del horno, y es de mis favoritas. Me gusta cómo se ve con el muro gris de fondo. El arbolito es una belleza, y un excelente recuerdo de lo que fue este fin de semana, uno de los mejores de todo el año. Un olivo, con todo y sus aceitunitas, que espero mañana ya esté plantadito en su nuevo hogar.

Las historias del fin de semana y mucho más estaré compartiendo esta semana que a penas comienza… a disfrutarla :)

Art, good moments, and nature is an excellent way to sum up these last few days. I know I haven’t posted as much as I like to, but I’ve been working on new projects that make me really excited, and very busy too. If you’re following me on instagram you’ll know I’ve been sketching, drawing, and creating new artwork lately. This is my latest piece, just recently made, and it’s one of my favorites. I love how it looks against the gray wall. The tree, on the other hand is such a beauty, and a great reminder of this weekend, probably the best in all year. An olive with its tiny olives, which will hopefully find its place tomorrow.

En la vida real, transformar un espacio y convertirlo en el lugar que soñamos suele ser mucho más lento de lo que lo quisiéramos… especialmente si, como nosotros, tienes poco presupuesto y tiempo. Los días vuelan, y cuando menos te das cuenta, resulta que  ya casi se cumplen 2 años desde aquella vez que nos propusimos por primera vez transformar el cuarto de nuestra hija. Los cambios se fueron haciendo poco a poco, primero una cosa, luego la otra… hasta hace algunas semanas en las que nos pusimos a trabajar para terminar los últimos detalles y hoy me hace mucha ilusión poder compartir los resultados  :)

In real life, transforming a space and turning it into your dream home takes far more months than what you’ve planned, especially if you, like us, are low on budget and time. Days fly by, and then you realize it’s almost 2 years since you first made plans about your daughter’s room (that’s us, again). We began by making little tweaks and minor changes, then one thing led to the other until a few weeks ago we set our minds to finish those little details missing. Now, I’m thrilled to share with you the results, at least so far :)

Me encanta ver cómo el espacio se ha acomodado a la forma de ser de nuestra hija. A ella siempre le ha gustado mucho toda la temática parisina, así que le encantaron las sábanas y el edredón “París”, de VNG, junto con su canopy “Sweet”. Aprovechando su pared pintarrón, yo le dibujé unas ventanitas muy al estilo francés para sorprenderla cuando viera su recámara.

I love how this room has turned into an expression of our daughter. She has always liked Paris, so she loved the sheets and duvet from VNG to go along with the “Sweet” canopy. Then, I drew some very French windows on her dry erase board wall to add up to the surprise.

Este lado de la pared ya lo había mostrado hace poco… prácticamente sigue igual, a excepción de los cuadros que cambiamos para que fueran a juego con el nuevo edredón. Estos son el modelo “París”, y lo que más me gusta es que el tono de azules el mismo que ya teníamos en la pared.

This side of the room, I had shown a little ago. It’s pretty much the same, except we changed the canvases to match the bedding. These are the called “Paris” and I love that the blue in the one above is just the same tone as the one on the wall.

Después de eso, fue agregar las tan anheladas cortinas (ella ya no quería las persianas)… su modelo favorito fue el “Galicia”, con sus delicadas líneas horizontales. Encima de ellas pusimos unas black out en blanco, para cuando necesite oscurecer su habitación. Usamos tubos cromados y las terminales Melfi.

Then it was just a matter of getting rid of the pink blinds, and installing the new curtains. Her favorite model is called “Galicia”, and it’s quite lovely with delicate horizontal stripes. Then, we put some white blackout curtains on top. We used the crome tube and Melfi  finial.

Como puedes ver, es un cuarto súper chiquito, pero ahora está lleno de estilo. A ella le encanta, y a mí también. Creo que quedó ideal para su edad (12 años), ya que lo quería femenino sin ser infantil. A mí me fascina el aire romántico que le aportan el canopy y las cortinas, ahora la recámara se ve mucho más “vestida” y terminada, y como las pusimos hasta el piso, le da una sensación de mayor amplitud. De hecho, a pesar del tamaño, este espacio no se siente apretado ni atiborrado… definitivamente este acomodo (igual al del cuarto de la bebé) con la cama pegada a la pared se presta mucho para los cuartos pequeñitos porque queda más lugar para moverse, y acomodar otras cosas, como en este caso, el escritorio que hicimos. Por último, los pequeños detalles, como son las flores, los viniles, la punta en la funda y demás accesorios, completan la decoración… ¿a ti qué te parece?

As you may notice, this is a tiny room, but it is now big on style. She loves it, and so do I. I think it’s perfect for her age (12) because it’s feminine without being childish. I love the romantic, airy feel the canopy and curtains give. I think in spite of its size, it doesn’t look cramped, and there’s room to move around and extra storage space in the desk and drawers. Last, but not least, it’s the little details that make it feel complete. How do you like it?

Revisando el archivo de fotos de nuestra recámara me llamaron la atención los diferentes looks que hemos tenido en ella. Es curioso, pero a veces cambiar el ambiente de una recámara es tan sencillo como cambiarle la ropa de cama (o incluso los accesorios), y así conseguimos un espacio distinto, que vaya de acuerdo a la estación del año, o simplemente a nuestro humor.  A continuación te comparto nuestros últimos estilos, para que tú también mires las diferencias :)

I was browsing through my bedroom photo files and I noticed the different looks we’ve had in it. It’s funny, but sometimes changing the space’s feel is just as easy as changing the bedding, or accesories, according to the seasons or our very own mood. Here are some pics from our last styles, hope you enjoy them :)

Un estilo muy neutro y relajado, con poco contraste. Ropa de cama de artell (que ganamos gracias a tu apoyo en el concurso!!!).

A very neutral and relaxed look, with no contrast. Bedding by artell.

Quizá el look más conocido de nuestra recámara, bohemio y colorido. Para conseguir este estilo, te puedes apoyar con diseños étnicos o damascos para el duvet, una sábana blanca para neutralizarlo, y usar cojines con diferentes diseños y texturas.

Probably our bedroom’s most known look, bohemian and colorful. For this style, I used a duvet with a damask design, white sheets, and different pillows.

Por último, probablemente mi look favorito de todos, nuestra recámara invernal. Para este estilo, utilicé ropa de cama neutra, cálida y con mucha textura, y para dar contraste usé algunas de mis pinturas y accesorios en tono aqua, que resaltaron perfecto con los tonos cafés. Ahora quiero una mini repisa sobre mi cama, para poder estar poniendo cuadros ahí, me gusta mucho cómo se ven.

Last but not least, probably my favorite look of all, our Winter bedroom. For this look, I used neutral bedding, and a gorgeous faux fur mega throw, which added lots of texture and warmth. Then to add some contrast, I placed some of my artwork and accesories in aqua tones, which reminds me I want a ledge shelf over my headboard, loved how the frames look.

Como recordarás, hace un mes que instalamos cortinas en nuestra sala, y nos encanta. El cambio principal, además de que el espacio luce más completo y vestido, es que las ventanas y las paredes se ven más amplias, y eso, en un espacio pequeño como el nuestro, es increíble.

As you may remember, about a month ago, we installed curtains in our living room, and we love it. The main change, besides having better window treatments, is the windows and walls look so much larger, and that is really appreciated, especially in a small space, like ours.

Ustedes ya se saben la historia del antes y el después, sin embargo, hay un par de secretos que no les he contado, y hoy les voy a compartir.

You know the before and after story, however, there are a couple of secrets I haven’t told anyone, and I’ve finally managed to have some time to spill the beans.

Primero: Para lograr que las cortinas se vieran como yo quería, tuve que meter tijera. Las cortinas originales eran así:

First: To get the curtains to look the way I wanted, I had to use my scissors. They originally came like this:

Pero yo no las quería con esos “tirantes”, especialmente porque no iba a poner otra cortina encima de ellas. Así que sacrificando altura por vista, me decidí a arreglar el asunto fácilmente:

I didn’t want them hanging like that, especially because I wasn’t putting any other curtains in front of them. So, sacrifying height for looks, I decided to tackle the issue easily:

Fuera tirantes, ¡hola cortinas nuevas!

Out curtain suspenders, hello new window treatments!

El segundo truco, es muy conocido, pero por si acaso tú no lo has escuchado, aquí te va:

“Para crear la sensación de amplitud, coloca las cortinas lo más arriba y a los lados posible”.

The other trick is very popular, but in case you haven’t heard of it, here it goes:

“Create the feeling of larger windows, by hanging the curtains high and wide”.

Este truco es muy sencillo, y el cambio es impresionante… en este dibujo que hice, las dos paredes y las dos ventanas son del mismo tamaño. Lo que cambia, son las cortinas. En nuestro caso, las persianas que teníamos estaban colgadas como en el segundo dibujo: bajas, angostas y cortitas… en pocas palabras, fatal.

This is a very simple trick, and the change really is huge. In this illustration I made, both walls and windows are the same size; the curtains are not. In our case, the shades where hanging like the second picture: low, narrow, and short. Not nice.

cortinas y cojines: Vianney

Por primera vez llego a tiempo para participar en el desafío blad, así que no podía perderme esta oportunidad. Se trata de mi rincón favorito de toda la casa: nuestra sala. Como saben, la transformación de este espacio ha sido toda una aventura, empezando con la pared que pinté de gris con la ayuda de un esténcil para lograr ese look tan escandinavo que me fascina. La mesa chaparrita que hice en mi diplomado de carpintería completa el estilo, con la madera en tono natural. Espero poco a poco ir cambiando otras cosas, mientras tanto, disfruto mucho así como está.

For the first time ever, I came just in time to participate in the blad challenge, and I could not miss the chance! It’s about my favorite place in our home: the living room. As you know, this space’s makeover has been quite an adventure, begining with the wall I stenciled to create that Scandinavian look I so much adore. The low side table is the one I made at the woodcraft workshop I took last year, and I love the natural tones it adds to the room. There are some things left to change still, but in the meantime, I enjoy it the way it is.

Ahora sí, a disfrutar el resto de la tarde, que acá tenemos día feriado… ¡espero lo hayan aprovechado bien!

Cuando recién nos mudamos a esta casa mandamos instalar persianas en todas las ventanas, pues era lo más económico. Nunca nos habían molestado en realidad, hasta que pintamos la pared de la sala con el esténcil. Justo en ese momento se empezaron a ver muy feas, digamos que… pues dejaron de combinar con la “nueva” sala.

When we first moved to this house, we had the cheapest blinds installed in every window. They had never been an issue until we stencilled our living room wall. That’s when the blinds began to look pretty ugly. Let’s say they no longer matched.

Éste era el lado menos conocido de nuestra sala… hasta hoy. Te presento nuestra sala mejorada :)

This was the least known side of our living room… until today. Meet our imporved living room :)

Adoro como pareciera que la ventana ahora es más ancha, dándole amplitud a esa pared.

I love how it seems the window is wider now, making the wall feel a little larger.

Siendo el mismo espacio, también al comedor le tocó su renovación.

Being in the same space, the dining room also had its mini improvement.

Es impresionante el cambio que pueden generar las cortinas en un ambiente. El espacio ya luce mucho más completo, especialmente la sala, con sus accesorios.

It’s amazing the big change window treatments can bring into a space. It looks more complete, especially the living room.

Las cortinas que usamos son el modelo Palmira blanco, de Vianney, y en la sala colocamos además las persianas Calcuta en color chocolate, también de Vianney. Son muy sencillas de instalar… tanto que lo hicimos nosotros solitos.

The curtains are the model Palmira in white, from Vianney, and in the living room we added the Calcuta bamboo blinds in chocolate, also from Vianney, for extra privacy, since this window leads to the street. 

Los cojines son el juego Oasis, de Vianney. Me gustaron por esos tonos azul aqua que tienen, y me encanta cómo van con el gris, además de que los patrones también complementan muy bonito al de la pared.

The pillows are the Oasis model, from Vianney. I liked their gorgeous aqua tones, and I love how both the color and the pattern go with our accent wall.

Poco a poco, nuestra casa sigue tomando forma… Por lo pronto yo estoy muy contenta, no sólo por el cambio, sino porque a mi esposo y a mi hija también les gustó mucho cómo quedó :)

Little by little, our house becomes a home. In the meantime, I’m feeling very happy, not only because of this change, but because both my husband and daughter are loving it :)

Hace muchos meses que iniciamos con la renovación del cuarto de nuestra hija, pero desde que le mandamos hacer su escritorio y repisas ya no habíamos tenido avances –hasta hoy. Finalmente me decidí a hacer los pequeños cambios que teníamos pendientes y debo decir que me encanta cómo se alegró y mejoró el espacio. En caso de que no lo recuerden, así lucía hasta ayer:

We started our daughter’s room makeover several months ago, but since we had her desk and shelves made, we hadn’t done anything else –that is, until today. I finally decided to tackle little changes we had overdue, and I must say I’m loving how the space looks more joyful and fresh. In case you don’t remember, this is how it looked like until yesterday:

En realidad son muy pocos y sencillos los cambios, pero creo que hacen una gran diferencia en cuanto a que el cuarto se ve más cálido, divertido y completo. Por supuesto, ya tenemos la silla… pero además, coloqué unas pequeñas lámparas de led que había comprado hace tiempo.

The changes are few and rather simple, but I like the huge difference they make. The room looks fun and more complete. Of course, we have a chair now, but I also put little led lighting underneath the lower shelf. I had bought them quite a while ago (shame on me!).

Son muy fáciles de poner, sólo se pegan con cinta de doble cara y ya.

They are really easy to “install”. I just used double side tape.

Los cuadros son el juego “Chic” del catálogo VNG. Me encanta porque van muy bien con el tono aqua que ya teníamos en la pared. :)

The wall art is from VNG. I love how well they go with the aqua tone my daughter chose for the wall.

Las mariposas son los viniles “Butterfly”, también del catálogo VNG, de Vianney.

The butterflies are wall decals, also from VNG.

Los demás detalles son los que nuestra hija ya tenía en su cuarto.

The other accesories were already in the room.

En el marco, una pequeña reproducción de una de mis acuarelas, al lado de la caja de cartón, pintada por ella hace un par de años…

In the frame, a small reproduction of one of my watercolors, next to the cardboard box painted by our daughter a couple of years ago.

Todavía nos faltan algunas otras cosas, pero por lo pronto este pequeño gran avance me tiene muy contenta. A ti ¿qué te parece? ¡Me encantará conocer tu opinión!

There are still some things left to do in this room, but in the meantime, this small change has made me really happy. How do you like it? I would love to hear what you think!

Este enero ha sido particularmente frío en Guadalajara, y no me puedo quejar :) En años anteriores, a estas alturas del año ya teníamos calor, y sin embargo, hoy escribo con los dedos fríos y abrigada. Considerando que 9 de los 12 meses del año hace mucho calor, mi filosofía es disfrutar el frío mientras nos dure. :)

Así que cuando Vianney me pidió nuevamente que estilizara un ambiente de nuestra casa con productos de su catálogo de invierno yo quedé encantada, especialmente porque ya le había echado el ojo a su cobertor capuchino (el mismo que les enseñé hace algunos días en nuestra sala). Pues bien, ahora llega por fin el momento de compartir nuestra recámara, acogedora y lista para disfrutar los días de frío.

This January has been especially cold for Guadalajara standards, and I’m thrilled with it. Considering 9 out of 12 moths is really hot, I say let’s enjoy the cool weather while we can :)

So, Vianney asked me once again to style their winter products my own way, and it made me really happy. You see, I had already set my eyes on their gorgeous capuccino faux fur (the very same one I used in our living room a couple of days ago). Here’s our cozy, winter bedroom :)

Las almohadas pachoncitas son el modelo capuchino, y el cojín pequeño es el modelo Nápoles, también de Vianney. Me encanta la textura y calidez que aportan.

Capuccino faux fur pillows and Naples cushion, adding texture and warmth.

Las sábanas también son perfectas para el frío, pues son de tela tipo franela, calientitas y suaves. Son el modelo polar en color perla.

The flannel sheets are perfect for the cold weather, super cozy and warm. This one is the polar model in pearl.

Para dar contraste, y romper la monotonía de los tonos cafés, coloqué pequeños detalles color azul aqua. No se necesita mucho, sólo algunos destellos aquí y allá. También me encanta cómo luce la vela búho que diseñé hace poco. :)

To break the monotony of creams and browns, I placed little aqua details here and there. I love how little accents is all it takes. Oh, and I also love my owl candle sitting there next to the flower. :)

Hablando de detalles pequeños que hacen la diferencia, es genial cómo nuestra recámara luce mejor con los tapetes color chocolate a cada lado de la cama… además de que lo bien que se siente no pisar el suelo frío cuando recién nos levantamos.

Speaking of little details that make the difference, it’s amazing how our master bedroom looks so much better with the chocolate rugs on each side of the bed. And I can’t tell you how better it is for us to not feel the cold floor first thing we get up.

No puedo explicar lo increíblemente pachoncita y deliciosa que quedó la cama. Meterte en ella es tan rico… ¡no dan ganas de moverse de ahí! Por cierto, ese cobertor se ha convertido en el favorito de todos desde que llegó. Tocarlo es lo máximo, por ambos lados -sin exagerar :)

Now our bed is fluffy and perfect. Slipping into it is soooo delicious. You feel like you want to stay there for the rest of the week. By the way, our faux fur has become everyone’s favorite thing for the chilly days. It’s so smooth on both sides… feels like heaven :)

Los primeros días de enero fueron muy fríos, justo como me gusta que sea el invierno. :) Todo lo que se antojaba era estar acostado viendo la tele o leyendo, así que aproveché para sacar nuestro cobertor capuchino, y nuestro cojín napoles de Vianney, y hacer nuestra sala un poco más invernal.

These last few days have been particularly cold (just as I like winters to be) :) All I wanted to do was snuggle watching tv or reading, so I decided to take our capuccino throw and pillow from Vianney out, and give our living room a Winter look.

Y ahora el otro lado de la sala, no tan conocido.

And this is the less known other side of the room.

(Una de mis metas para este año es cambiar esas persianas).

(One of my 2013 goals is to change the window “treatment”).

Me encanta cómo sólo bastan algunos detalles para dar el toque invernal. En esta época lo importante son las texturas, por eso me encanta el cobertor; además de que es de lo más calientito :)

Disfruta el resto del invierno, que pronto habrá terminado :)

A few details here and there is all it takes to keep the Winter look. It’s definitely all about textures, that’s why I love my faux fur throw. Plus, it’s really does help keeping us warm :)

Sígueme en Instagram!

No quería dejar que terminara el año sin antes mostrarles los últimos cambios que hemos hecho en casa. Como saben, tenemos 4 años viviendo aquí, y MUY poco a poco hemos ido transformándola en el espacio que soñamos que sea. En este tiempo, prácticamente hemos hecho 2 proyectos grandes: el de la cocina y el de la sala-comedor. Pues bien, justo antes de estas vacaciones empezamos a atacar un nuevo rincón: el cuarto de tv (cuidado: los “antes” de este post pueden asustar mucho. Mírelos bajo su propio riesgo).

I didn´t want to let this year pass by without showing the latest things we’ve been doing around here. As you know, we’ve been living in this place for 4 years now, and VERY little by little we’ve been transforming it into our dream home. In all these years, we’ve practically tackled only 2 spaces: our kitchen, and our living and dining area. Well, not anymore. Right before the holidays we begun our third big project: the TV room (beware: some “before” photos might be a little too scary to see. Do so under your own risk).

Ok. Vayamos en un viaje a través del tiempo. Éste es nuestro rincón de TV hace 4 años. No teníamos mueble, así que usábamos 2 cajones de nuestra hija para sostener la tv y demás triques. Obviamente era súper impráctico por no decir bastante feo, pero era lo único que teníamos.

Ok. Fast rewind to 4 years ago. This was our TV wall. No proper furniture, no nothing. This was obviously sooooo unfunctional and plain ugly, but still, the only thing we had.

Un año después, encontré este mueble (originalmente una mesa de centro de sala) en una venta de cochera y me gustó como mueble de tv. Lo vendían en $500 pesos (el equivalente a $40 dólares), lo cual definitivamente no era una ganga, pero nuevamente, era lo mejor que podíamos tener en el momento con nuestro presupuesto y, además, yo sentía que había en mí el potencial para ser la mujer maravilla de las transformaciones y los DIY (acababa de descubrir los blogs). Ésta era mi mejor oportunidad para mostrarlo (de hecho, uno de mis primeros posts fue la “transformación” de este espacio. Si te quieres reír un ratito, da click aquí para verlo).

Por cierto, la mesa resultó no tener el soporte (obviamente) necesario para sostener la TV y la madera empezó a doblarse, así que pagamos $200 pesos ($18 dólares apróx) para que le pusieran más soporte. En ese entonces yo no sabía nada, pero nada, de carpintería. Fue hasta tiempo después que me di cuenta que nos vieron la cara porque aún esa cantidad fue mucho para la calidad de trabajo que realizaron. Eso sí, el mueble quedó lo suficientemente fuerte para ya no doblarse con el peso de la tele.

A year later, I found this coffee table in a garage sale and liked it. It costed me about 40 dollars, which was still a little out of my budget, but still, the best thing we could afford. Plus, I had just recently discovered blogs, and I really thought I had the potential to become the wonder woman of DIY. This was my best chance to prove it, and I actually attempted to try in one of my very first posts ever. If you feel like laughing you can click here to read it. Estuvimos así 2 años hasta el 2011 en que en mi curso de carpintería hice un mueble de tele como proyecto final. El mueble estuvo todo este tiempo como mesa de apoyo en nuestra sala… hasta ahora…

We were like that for 2 years until last year, when I took the wookcraft course and I chose to make a tv table as final project. I finished it a year ago, but we kept it as a side table in our living room… until now.

Un buen amigo del curso me ayudó a hacer las repisas y por fin, después de mucha espera, ¡las pudimos colgar para completar el espacio y dejarlo mucho más terminado y organizado!

A good friend of mine from the course helped me make the invisible shelves, and after such a long time we finally put them in place, leaving the wall with a more finished look, and best of all: organized!

Tenemos dos cajones perfectos para guardar dvd’s, juegos y demás accesorios.

We now have two drawers for dvd’s, games and other stuff.

Unas repisas lindas que me dan superficie para poder acomodar cosas bonitas y almacenar libros. Ahí está el nacimiento que nos hizo nuestra nena.

I finally have my beloved shelves, where I can place pretty things and books. Actually, the nativity set our daughter made is right there right now.

También puse un platito lindo para poner nuestras llaves.

I also have a cute little plate where to put our keys.

Sé que todavía falta MUCHO qué hacer en este cuarto, especialmente porque del otro lado sigue igual que en el post viejito, pero eso me llena de emoción: ¡mucho qué hacer para el próximo año que ya casi empieza!!!!!!

I know there’s still a LOT to do in this room, especially since the other side is as ugly as it was in that old post I told you, but that makes it all even more exciting: so much more to do next year!!!!
