El espacio es una de esas cosas de las que nunca (o casi nunca) tenemos lo suficiente en las casas. Los hogares siempre necesitan todo el espacio de almacenamiento que se les pueda dar, y, el caso de las casas chiquitas, es una de las cosas más preciadas del mundo.

El espacio que hoy te quiero presentar no es para nada chiquito, pero sí ofrece una solución de organización que, en lo particular, me deja encantada. :)

Space is one of those things we can never (or almost never) get enough in a house. Homes are always in need of good storage space, and that’s even more precious if the home is small. 

The space I’m sharing today is not a tiny room, but it has a gorgeous organizing solution I really like :)

Qué increíble manera de aprovechar la pared, ¿no crees? Un mueble a la medida, en blanco para no restarle amplitud al espacio, que aprovecha toda la pared en donde se recarga la cama. Muchos rincones donde guardar libros, mostrar fotografías y demás tesoros. Además, la recámara es en sí misma una belleza, con colores cálidos y neutros, donde el blanco y los colores claros destacan y hacen del espacio un lugar luminoso y sereno. La combinación blanco, negro y madera nuevamente se hace presente, para lograr un estilo country moderno que lo tiene todo: clásico, elegante y relajado a la vez.

Don’t you just love the way the wall is used? The built-in shelves are gorgeous, and the white helps them blend into the wall, adding to the sense of space in the room. There’s plenty of storage space, and enough room to display photographs and objects. I know the bedroom is in itself a beauty, with the warm, neutral tones, where white and light cream make it look spacious and serene. The black, white, and wood palette manages to make this modern country style look both elegant and relaxed, all at the same time.

Hoy tengo antojo de pasar el día en esta hermosa recámara blanco y negro.

Today I’m craving this gorgeous black and white bedroom.

Como ya lo he dicho, me gusta mucho el contraste entre ambos colores, suavizado por los tonos cafés y grises, y en este caso creo que resulta muy atinado. La pared del fondo está pintada de negro mate, lo cual hace que destaque la gran cabecera, y los cojines son el toque perfecto para darle calidez al espacio. ¿A ti qué te parece?

As I’m always saying, I love the contrast between black and white, and how light brown and gray soften it and make it look so cozy. I love the black wall against the white headboard, and the pillows are simply perfect, don’t you agree?

Revisando el archivo de fotos de nuestra recámara me llamaron la atención los diferentes looks que hemos tenido en ella. Es curioso, pero a veces cambiar el ambiente de una recámara es tan sencillo como cambiarle la ropa de cama (o incluso los accesorios), y así conseguimos un espacio distinto, que vaya de acuerdo a la estación del año, o simplemente a nuestro humor.  A continuación te comparto nuestros últimos estilos, para que tú también mires las diferencias :)

I was browsing through my bedroom photo files and I noticed the different looks we’ve had in it. It’s funny, but sometimes changing the space’s feel is just as easy as changing the bedding, or accesories, according to the seasons or our very own mood. Here are some pics from our last styles, hope you enjoy them :)

Un estilo muy neutro y relajado, con poco contraste. Ropa de cama de artell (que ganamos gracias a tu apoyo en el concurso!!!).

Quizá el look más conocido de nuestra recámara, bohemio y colorido. Para conseguir este estilo, te puedes apoyar con diseños étnicos o damascos para el duvet, una sábana blanca para neutralizarlo, y usar cojines con diferentes diseños y texturas.

Probably our bedroom’s most known look, bohemian and colorful. For this style, I used a duvet with a damask design, white sheets, and different pillows.

Por último, probablemente mi look favorito de todos, nuestra recámara invernal. Para este estilo, utilicé ropa de cama neutra, cálida y con mucha textura, y para dar contraste usé algunas de mis pinturas y accesorios en tono aqua, que resaltaron perfecto con los tonos cafés. Ahora quiero una mini repisa sobre mi cama, para poder estar poniendo cuadros ahí, me gusta mucho cómo se ven.

Last but not least, probably my favorite look of all, our Winter bedroom. For this look, I used neutral bedding, and a gorgeous faux fur mega throw, which added lots of texture and warmth. Then to add some contrast, I placed some of my artwork and accesories in aqua tones, which reminds me I want a ledge shelf over my headboard, loved how the frames look.

Yo sé que es lunes, y hay que empezar la semana con energía, pero si yo pudiera elegir, pediría tomarme una semanita de vacaciones dentro de este hermoso espacio blanco, sereno y lleno de luz. ¿Alguien más se apunta? ;)

Hoy encontré esta hermosa recámara mientras navegaba en la blogósfera… y me encantó. Es un espacio sumamente luminoso y acogedor, definitivamente una cama que invita. Me llamó mucho la atención la cantidad de detalles étnicos que tiene, traídos de todas partes del mundo (Uruguay, Marruecos, Mongolia y Canadá, entre otros), y cómo todos van tan bien entre sí, además de que aportan mucho carácter a la habitación, ¿no te parece? Sin duda, este estilo se puede incorporar muy bien en los espacios modernos o contemporáneos, usando piezas clave (a mi mente viene toda la riqueza textil que tenemos por ejemplo aquí en México). Algo que también vale la pena resaltar es la ubicación de la cama. Mientras aquí nos negamos a colocar la cabecera debajo de la ventana, en países como Estados Unidos y Canadá es algo de lo más común… y debo decir que luce muy bonito. Supongo que es cuestión cultural y de costumbre…  ¿será que un día nosotros también nos animamos?

Today I found this gorgeous bedroom as I was browsing the blogosphere, and I fell for it. It’s such a bright and cozy space, definitely inviting. I loved all the ethnic details it has, brought from different parts of the world (Uruguay, Morocco, Mongolia, and Canada) and how they all go well together, adding so much character to the room. Ethnic accents can be well incorporated into modern or contemporary rooms, using key pieces (all our rich indigenous textiles in Mexico come to mind). Something noticeable as well is the bed position. While we refuse to place our headboard under the window, it’s obviously something quite common in the U.S. or Canada, and I must say I love the way it looks. I guess it’s something cultural and traditional… will we dare someday, I wonder? :)

Las siguientes fotos bien podrían estar en aquella sección de “Encuentra las diferencias”. Se trata de el mismo espacio, decorado con distintos elementos pero buscando recrear el mismo look. Una opción es accesible, la otra no tanto. Las diferencias en sí son obvias y evidentes, pero lo más increíble es que a primera vista pareciera la misma fotografía. Mira por ti mismo:

The following photos could be an interesting exercise of “Find The Differences”. It’s the same space, styled with different elements but trying to recreate the same look. One option is affordable, the other one not so much. The differences are obvious, but the amazing thing is at first view, they really look the same. See for yourself:

¿Verdad que es un buen ejercicio? La idea detrás de esto es demostrar que no es necesario adquirir los muebles más caros para conseguir el estilo que buscamos. De hecho, desconozco cuál opción es cuál… pero en realidad eso no importa, por que ambos espacios me gustan mucho. Me encanta la serenidad que irradian.

Isn’t it a great exercise? The idea behind it is proving that you don’t need the most expensive pieces to recreate the style you are looking for. Actually, I don’t know which option is which, and it really doesn’t matter. I like them both. I love how serene and welcoming they look.

Todo mundo adora las buenas transformaciones, ¿cierto? Mejor aún las que se hacen en poco tiempo y con poco presupuesto. Justo de eso se trata el post de hoy: un “antes y después” realizado en 2 días y con $150 dólares. ¿Listo para las fotos?

So everybody likes a good “before and after”, right? Better yet when it’s made with little time and a low budget. Well, then you’ll love today’s post: a bedroom makeover made in 2 days and with only $150. Ready for the photos?

Vaya cambio, ¿no crees? Me gusta mucho cómo se siente el espacio con la pared gris oscura y los muebles en blanco. De esa manera, los accesorios con colores brillantes lucen lindos y frescos. Obviamente para conseguir una transformación con tan poco dinero, muchas cosas se hicieron; no se compraron. Por ejemplo, la cabecera, el buró, los cojines, los relojes, todos fueron proyectos diy (o hum: hágalo usted mismo), y eso me encanta. De hecho, cada que veo una transformación así, me dan ganas de tomar mis latas de pintura y atacar nuestra casa en mis mejores fachas. Si no tuviera que ir a la oficina, ya estaría haciéndolo (es mi sueño, lo saben, ¿verdad?).

Hablando de oficina, es hora ya de ir a trabajar… he tenido semanas muy pesadas y por eso no he podido pasar a visitar blogs y comentar… prometo ponerme al corriente prontito :)

Talk about makeovers, right? I love how the space feels fresh and modern with the dark grey wall and the white elements, and it makes the color accesories pop. Obviously, transforming something with that little money means diy everywhere, which I totally love. For instance, the headboard, side table, pillows, clocks, all of them where diy projects. Actually, this kind of makeovers make me so anxious to take my brushes and paints and tackle a room. If I didn’t have to go to the office I would (you know I would).

Speaking about that, it’s time to go to work… by the way, I’ve been having lots of things to do everywhere, so I’m really sorry for not visiting my blog friends and commenting… I promise to catch up with that really soon. :)

Este enero ha sido particularmente frío en Guadalajara, y no me puedo quejar :) En años anteriores, a estas alturas del año ya teníamos calor, y sin embargo, hoy escribo con los dedos fríos y abrigada. Considerando que 9 de los 12 meses del año hace mucho calor, mi filosofía es disfrutar el frío mientras nos dure. :)

Así que cuando Vianney me pidió nuevamente que estilizara un ambiente de nuestra casa con productos de su catálogo de invierno yo quedé encantada, especialmente porque ya le había echado el ojo a su cobertor capuchino (el mismo que les enseñé hace algunos días en nuestra sala). Pues bien, ahora llega por fin el momento de compartir nuestra recámara, acogedora y lista para disfrutar los días de frío.

This January has been especially cold for Guadalajara standards, and I’m thrilled with it. Considering 9 out of 12 moths is really hot, I say let’s enjoy the cool weather while we can :)

So, Vianney asked me once again to style their winter products my own way, and it made me really happy. You see, I had already set my eyes on their gorgeous capuccino faux fur (the very same one I used in our living room a couple of days ago). Here’s our cozy, winter bedroom :)

Las almohadas pachoncitas son el modelo capuchino, y el cojín pequeño es el modelo Nápoles, también de Vianney. Me encanta la textura y calidez que aportan.

Las sábanas también son perfectas para el frío, pues son de tela tipo franela, calientitas y suaves. Son el modelo polar en color perla.

The flannel sheets are perfect for the cold weather, super cozy and warm. This one is the polar model in pearl.

Para dar contraste, y romper la monotonía de los tonos cafés, coloqué pequeños detalles color azul aqua. No se necesita mucho, sólo algunos destellos aquí y allá. También me encanta cómo luce la vela búho que diseñé hace poco. :)

To break the monotony of creams and browns, I placed little aqua details here and there. I love how little accents is all it takes. Oh, and I also love my owl candle sitting there next to the flower. :)

Hablando de detalles pequeños que hacen la diferencia, es genial cómo nuestra recámara luce mejor con los tapetes color chocolate a cada lado de la cama… además de que lo bien que se siente no pisar el suelo frío cuando recién nos levantamos.

Speaking of little details that make the difference, it’s amazing how our master bedroom looks so much better with the chocolate rugs on each side of the bed. And I can’t tell you how better it is for us to not feel the cold floor first thing we get up.

No puedo explicar lo increíblemente pachoncita y deliciosa que quedó la cama. Meterte en ella es tan rico… ¡no dan ganas de moverse de ahí! Por cierto, ese cobertor se ha convertido en el favorito de todos desde que llegó. Tocarlo es lo máximo, por ambos lados -sin exagerar :)

Now our bed is fluffy and perfect. Slipping into it is soooo delicious. You feel like you want to stay there for the rest of the week. By the way, our faux fur has become everyone’s favorite thing for the chilly days. It’s so smooth on both sides… feels like heaven :)

Una de las cosas que más disfruto de la decoración es su capacidad para transformar espacios. A veces creemos que para cambiar un cuarto se necesita mucho de todo: presupuesto, tiempo, dimensiones, etc. y, si bien es cierto que todo lo anterior ayuda, también lo es que a veces basta tener buen gusto, creatividad y la disposición de ensuciarnos un poquito las manos (o sea, hacer las cosas por nosotros mismos). Este “antes y después” es prueba del poder transformador que tienen detalles meramente decorativos  para convertir un espacio “bueno” en uno increíble e inspirador.

One of the things I like the most about decorating is its capacity to transform spaces. Sometimes we think in order to change a room we need huge amounts of everything: budget, time, space, and so on. I know it helps, but I also believe sometimes all it takes is having taste, creativity, and the willingness to get our hands dirty (the famous d.i.y.). This “before and after” shows how textiles and accesories can turn a “blah” room into a bright and inspiring space.

Como puedes ver, no hay muchos cambios, de hecho, los muebles, lámparas, e incluso la ropa de cama, todos ellos se mantuvieron. ¿Qué hace la diferencia? Cojines, tapetes, cortinas, papel tapiz y demás accesorios. Me encanta cómo se aprovechó la ventana para crear un espacio para relajarse y disfrutar, agregando espacio de almacenaje debajo de la banca, cojines, cortinas, y lo mejor: un candelabro de cristales para ese toque inesperado. Hermoso, ¿verdad?

Detrás de esta transformación se encuentra Emily Henderson, estilista, ganadora del programa Design Star y estrella en su propio show: “Secretos de una estilista”, disponible en latinoamérica a través de Fox Life. Por cierto, uno de mis programas favoritos, lleno de buenos consejos e ideas de decoración. ;)

There aren’t many changes going on in the room. Actually the furniture, lamps, and even bedding were kept. What a huge difference cushions, curtains, wallpaper and other accesories make, huh? I love how odd space under the window was used to create an enjoyable space, with extra storage. The chandelier is an amazing touch!

Behind this makeover is stylist Emily Henderson, also known for being a Design Star winner and host to her own HGTV show Secrets from a Stylist. A favorite of mine, of course.

Sígueme!

A veces nos asusta usar colores oscuros cuando decoramos, sin embargo cada vez estoy más convencida que tenemos que perderle miedo a ello. Yo, personalmente, adoro los neutros, y creo que esta imagen es el ejemplo perfecto de los bellos espacios que podemos crear usando grises intensos (o incluso negro) de la mano de elementos blancos. El contraste es hermoso, y hace que todas las piezas resalten. En este caso, en particular, me gusta mucho cómo se incorporó un rosa muy tenue, logrando una especie de degradación del color increíble.

Sin duda un espacio que me hace soñar… ¡que tengas un lindo día!

Sometimes we’re scared to use dark colors, but every day I’m more convinced that we should really loose that feeling. I personally love neutrals, and this photo is the perfect example of how we can incorporate really dark greys (or even black) paired up with white elements. It’s so amazing! The contrast is beautiful, and it makes everything pop! I love how they brought subtle pink to the room, getting an ombre look in the bedding with the different tones. Really beautiful!
