Rústico escandinavo en Malibú

Me gusta mucho ver cómo viven las otras personas, asomarme a sus casas… especialmente cuando se trata de gente creativa. Y es que, suelen tener un talento nato para acomodar sus espacios y llenarlos de personalidad y estilo. Así fue como di con esta casa de techos altos y apariencia de cabaña escandinava, pero convenientemente instalada en Malibú. Sus dueños, la estilista Becks Welch y el director de fotografía Darek Wolski, la decoraron solitos, sin la ayuda de ningún diseñador de interiores. El resultado, una interesante mezcla claroscuro, con piezas modernas y rústicas, industrial, y acogedor a la vez.

I love getting into other peoples’ homes… especially when it’s creative ones. They generally have this innate talent to make spaces their own, filling them with personality and style. That’s why it was no surprise to me when I found this amazing, high ceilings, Scandinavian-like cabin in Malibu. It’s owners, stylist Becks Welch and cinematographer Darek Wolski decorated it on their own, no designer needed. The result, an interesting mix of dark and light, modern and rustic, both industrial and cozy at the same time.

Definitivamente un hogar con mucho estilo, diferente a lo que solemos imaginar en Malibú, ¿verdad? Ya saben, yo soy fan del mix blanco, negro, madera, así que esta casa me llegó duro por ese lado, y también con esa pared tipo galería encima del sofá. Sin embargo, lo que me terminó de matar fue la recámara y… el baño. Ese baño. Me encanta el toque rústico de la tina de obra, sin azulejos ni mosaicos, la pared blanca con el cuadro, la madera… Me hizo recordar los días cuando, de chicos, nos llegamos a bañar al aire libre, en la “pila de agua” de mi tía. ¡Qué tiempos más lindos!

This home is oozing with style, and it’s a pretty different style than what we would imagine in Malibu, right? You know me, I’m such a sucker for the black, white, and wood mix, and gallery walls, so this house hit me hard. But it was the bedroom and bathroom that really knocked me out. That bathroom. It is so beautiful and rustic, no tiles, just the white wall with the framed art, the wood. It took me to my childhood, when we enjoyed splashing in my aunt’s outdoor concrete water basin. Such good times!
