Me encanta recorrer las calles de mi ciudad y descubrir nuevos lugares, como quien se descubre un nuevo lunar al observarse la piel.
El fin de semana pasado andábamos por la zona centro, cuando nos llegó la hora de comer. Como estábamos cerca, sugerí ir Le Coq à Poil, mi lugar de crepas favorito en la ciudad. Nos estacionamos lo más cerca que pudimos y ya caminando del coche al restaurant, encontramos una casa azul turquesa brillante, con un letrerito irresistible que decía: “Aquí es Clavel” sobre el medidor de la luz… Luego, más arriba, sobre el portón, un cartón con el menú: queso fundido, sopa de tortilla, elotes, tlayudas… chiles en nogada. A esas alturas, estaba decidido: comeríamos crepas otro día.
I love walking down the streets of Guadalajara, and discovering new places. Last weekend we were downtown, when suddenly, it was lunch time. Since we were close, I suggested going to Le Coq à Poil, my favorite place for crepes in the city. We parked as close as we could, and were walking to the restaurant when we found a bright teal house, with an irresistible sign reading “Here is Clavel” (meaning carnation). Then, a little higher, over the door, a large piece of cardboard with a very Mexican menu: tortilla soup, corn, melted cheese, tlayudas, chiles en nogada. At that point, there was no turning point: we were having crepes some other day.
Entramos, y no había una mesa ocupada. “¿Será que nos quedamos?”, nos preguntamos. “Pero, ¿cómo no, si tienen chiles en nogada a $65?”, pensé yo, y decidimos probar suerte en esta fondita colorida y sencilla… Yo no terminaba de entender cómo éramos los únicos en un lugar con ese encanto, y la suerte que teníamos de que nos atendieran sólo a nosotros. A medida que tomamos nuestro lugar y nos fuimos acomodando, las sorpresas siguieron… lo único que lamenté fue no haber cargado mi cámara, como en tantas ocasiones. Clavel, resultó ser una maravilla de lugar, con comida muy rica a un precio accesible. Así que mientras esperamos nuestros platillos, di rienda suelta a mis ganas de capturarlo todo, aunque sólo fuera con el celular…

We walked in, and there was not a single table taken. “Shall we stay?”, we asked ourselves. “But how couldn’t we, if they have chiles en nogada?”, I thought, and we decided to try our luck in this colorful and simple restaurant. I couldn’t figure out how on Earth were we the only ones in such a charmful place, and how lucky we were to have the staff all to ourselves. As we sat down and settled, I kept finding cute things to capture, if only I had my camera with me. Clavel turned out to be a wonderful place, with delicious food at a very affordable price. So, while we waited for our food to arrive, I went crazy with my cellphone.

Clavel está en la calle Escorza #11 (a un costado del edificio de la UdG), en horario de 9 am a 10 pm de lunes a jueves, y viernes y sábados de 9 am a 1 am… creo que puede ser una opción muy buena como barecito en la noche, espero pronto poder contarles 😉
Mientras tanto, recuerden que hoy miércoles en la noche se estrena un nuevo programa de Deco Hogar, y en esta ocasión les traeremos ideas para transformar el cuarto de una niña ¡en el cuarto para una chica adolescente! Yo, por mi parte, estaré usando esta chulada de papeles…
Clavel is on 11 Escorza street, from 9 am to 10 pm from Monday to Thursday, and Fridays and Saturdays from 9 am to 1 am. I think this might be a really cool place to hang out on weekend nights… Hopefully I’ll let you know soon 😉 In the meantime, tonight airs a new Deco Hogar, and this time we’ll be sharing ideas to transform a girl’s bedroom into a teen’s place! Me, I’ll be working with these beauties…
